Anyone know anything about a partwork Avengers magazine - beginning with Frighteners/Trapeze/Hot Snow plus booklet for about 2.99?

I think we discussed an Avengers partwork before on the old forum - I'm undecided whether I'd buy it.

Any thoughts ... ?

Here's the link:

Might get the first one at 2:99 but 8 for 2 episodes thereafter is a bit steep.

Check this out. Free gifts - calendar, soundtrack CD, prints and DVD storage case.

It's either feast of famine when you're an Avengers fan. Hmmm. Confused

I'm a little confused about what this is--there are magazines and stuff, but also DVDs. Do you buy the DVDs and then get sent a bunch of magazines and whatever other little extras they care to add?

This explains the concept of partworks.

Looks like they're still updating the site as some links which weren't working earlier are now functioning and there's a now a link to a TV ad which wasn't there before - which doesn't yet work. By my reckoning it would cost around 650 to collect the lot Surprised

Yes the TV ad wouldn't work for me either. Must be very new.

Look forward to the ads on ITV and C4 (it was great seeing The Saint ones - and I'm not even a fan!), but I don't know whther I want to invest that much - especially as I won't be playing the DVDs.

Ah, I see. I hadn't heard of these before. The Avengers continues to be educational. Laughing

I've asked someone on Roobarb's who owns a copy.

My local newsagent hasn't any - or even heard of it (isn't it embarrasing when you ask for something and they stare back as if you've escaped from some warden controlled establishment? Laughing )

It is very expensive to collect, but as someone said - they very often turn up at your local The Works or Booksale or somewhere. Did anyone buy The Saint partwork?

It's the very cool looking storage case I'm mostly interested in. Cool

A magazine that explains about the series that comes with a DVD per issue.

With the magazines it is a nice thing for an Avengers collection, but after the first one they get so expensive, and are these series ever completed?

The Prisoner one was and got pretty good reviews (I only got the first one). Until Network's remastered set it was said to have the best quality transfers.

All I can tell you is that the DVDs from other partworks regularly turn up in Poundland. I've spotted Star Trek, Spooks, Charmed, Stargate, Dad's Army, Porridge, Midsomer Murders, Waking The Dead and Poirot. Star Trek and Spooks only managed one season, though I did pick up the very last episode of The X-Files.

For DVD they still are, since the Network ones are marred by bad restoration - chopped and changed titles and voiceovers, freeze-frames on scene changes and so on. The BluRay is reportedly less beset by these errors.

Of course the magazine/DVD partwork continued beyond the Prisoner and into (all of) Danger Man aka Secret Agent. Our very own Jaz Wiseman was involved and the magazine was very worthwhile.

Just for clarification, the Blu-ray edition of The Prisoner fixes all the errors that are inherent in the DVD transfers.

And in answer to the question of who has written the magazine features, no one is credited in the mags at all.

Looks like they've had a re-think and will now start the partwork (if it ever appears) with the 4th season on, beginning with The Town of No Return and The Gravediggers.
