I finally got hold of this wonderful new book this week, off the internet at half the recommended price. Not big on text admittedly, in fact I read it in one sitting, but terrific photos. I do have roughly half the photos already, but I guess that's because of all the Avengers books I already have, not to mention all those trading cards. On the plus side though, are all those rare and previously unseen behind the scenes photos, and the fact that the book is hardbook, the first ever Avengers hardback (excluding the annuals!) in the UK. A very nice 50th anniversary tribute, in the light of no calendar this year. Rich.

I have my copy as well and I do agree with everything you've said about it especially how fabulous the pictures are. I love the full page photo of Alun Hughes. I finally get to put a face to a name. Smile

I have ordered this book that looks wonderful (I watched the YouTube video). Of course, it's a pity that the TNA are not in the book but it seems that Mrs Peel section is pretty important (Seasons 4 & 5 and TNA are my prefered eras).

I've already received mine from Amazon and I'm trying desperately not to open the exceptionally large box it came in until Christmas!

Got mine yesterday. It really is a lovely book, but the lack of TNA still hurts it for me. Glad to see some exposure for Venus and Martin King, though, and some of the shots of Diana are absolutely gorgeous.

That gray-haired shot of Patrick just about gave me a heart attack, though. Before I read the caption, I feared filming season 4 had taken more out of him that I thought. Laughing

Yes! I'm suprised no-one's mention that before. It's stunning.

That was one of the first things I did. I make a habit of it ever since the Life on Mars series guides turned magically into 1973 annuals when th jacket was off. Wink It's gorgeous. Very Happy

I was gobsmacked to see picture evidence of Honor Blackman's stunt doubles - who knew!

If they are on the galleries of the 1st box set, I have indeed.

Stunt doubles ?? There was just one, in Brief for Murder, the girl who fell into the lake, doubling for Miss Blackman, after Cathy was supposedly shot.

It was the Thames, not a lake, but there's also the double for some of the motorbike scenes in "Build a Better Mousetrap". I'm sure there are more, too.

Read the Celebration book last night. (Took all of about an hour and a half.)

Was fine for what it is ie basically a collection of lots of nice photographs from the show.

Would have preferred something on The New Avengers which I personally have always considered part of the same show but I guess the ghastly seventies fashions would have clashed with the cool swinging sixties vibe of the rest of the book.
Would have also liked a chapter on all the spin off merchandise and ephemera (ie tat ! Razz ) but again, this was not really what the book was setting out to do so that's fair enough.

Basically, if you want a big hardback book with lots of nice photos of The Avengers to look at then this fits the bill.

Blackman said the double for the boat scene was the only one. She already knew how to ride a motorbike so she didn't need a double for that.

Exactly. The point of the book was to create a coffee table item that could be looked at in a casual way. There have been plenty of other Avengers books filled with text. The lack of New Avengers material keeps it simple and to the point; a celebration of the original run of the series in the '60s.

It does end rather abrupty though, doesn't show the complete picture and misses an opportunity to show rare TNA pics to a large Joanna Lumley audience.

This arrived through the post yesterday, which I ordered offline, and I must say its a very beautiful book, with lots of fabulous images. Really worth the money. Would of been a real bonus if there was stuff in there about The New Avengers, The Movie and Spin Offs. But a real great buy, and I am very impressed. Very Happy

The book is a visual feast and it's lovely as a 'coffee table' book. but let's be honest: there is very little reading material in it.
