For those of you who are going to the event, we, of course, would love to hear your stories on it. So please feel free to tell us about your experiences, post pics, etc. However, please keep it to this thread so that we don't have the same subject matter scattered throughout the forum.

Thanks and I hope you all have a great time. Very Happy

Well, I managed to arrive on time despite the best efforts of South West Trains and London Underground.

I enjoyed the panels. Although an Avengers event, thankfully the panels didn't get bogged down in trying to get actors to remember details of a job they did nearly 50 years ago. Instead there were a few questions on The Avengers and then we got into general questions on their career and the acting profession in general.

All the speakers were good. Of the first couple of panels I particularly enjoyed Peter J Elliot and Bernard Kay who both struck me as "old school" actors with a wealth of stories and experience. Smile

Honor was the star attraction of the day and didn't disappoint. She looked very glam and was relaxed and enjoyed a bit of banter with the audience, for example over her "Kinky Boots" record. She hadn't seen yesterday's Express interview with Patrick Macnee although Macnee's son had e-mailed to tell her about it. I wish I'd had a copy to give to her !
One thing which came through from her and several of the other speakers was the obvious affection they have for Macnee.

I'm not usually an autograph hunter but as much of the afternoon was devoted to them I decided to break my rule. Smile I bought some nice pics and got them signed by the female guests. Janet Hargreaves hadn't been aware before the event that her episode was out on DVD. Honor Blackman laughed when she saw the photo I bought of her and Macnee on the back of a motorbike. Smile I was a bit tongue tied in front of Anneke Wills. I'm always rather crap at these things.
All the guests were really nice. The panel which followed was very enjoyable, informal and chatty. I enjoyed Fenella Fielding telling of the half an hour's work she did recording voice overs for The Prisoner. Smile All the guests seemed to enjoy being there and meeting the fans.

Thanks to the organisers for an enjoyable event.

Lovely, intimate event. Good to see friends old and new there, including some from this forum.

Honor was on good form and looking marvellous - and all the guests had something worthwhile and often entertaining to relate. Well worth the money and a nice way to spend a Sunday.

If I can offer a little constructive criticism, I think the event needed a couple of guests with a production and/or writing perspective on the series and probably some of the guests should have seen their episodes before coming along, particularly as in terms of their careers (Honor aside), The Avengers was a short engagement for them. It would have given their memories a jolt. The discussion about the rest of their careers was lovely, but at an Avengers event, I would have expected a bit more coverage of what they did in The Avengers. I fully understand why they may have foggy memories (50 years on, often one or two weeks out of a career), but sending them a DVD might have helped.

As I say, a lovely event - and I hope the comment above is taken in the spirit intended. If this is to be a regular event, to entice Avengers fans back, I think we probably need to hear more about The Avengers.

Only REAL criticism has to be directed at the extortionate prices for sandwiches at the bar.

Worth it, getting manhandled by Honor I'd say.

Were you out for eight and a half minutes?

It was my first time to one of these events so I didn't really know what to expect or prepare like everyone else. I was great thought, slightly surreal - and the people I was with got into it, they were less enthusiastic than me but enjoyed it a lot more than they were expecting to; they got a couple of questions in too.

They were all very easy to talk to (well I say talk to... more of a quiet nervous mumble), and Peter Elliot was funny, he was trying to charm my mum a bit, and kept calling me Hanna-H; I chatted a bit of who and theatre with Janet Hargreaves & who with Anneke Wills. And of course like my friend's mum say's, Honor was a Lady Smile.
It did feel like people were mainly there for the autographs, I guess thatís normal? I donít know.
But a great first time.

I love your photos too! Did you learn to tumble and that in preparation Very Happy?

No - I knew how to 'tumble' like that already. I've been doing judo for a while now, and in a couple of weeks I'm off to Tokyo to do an intensive course Smile

It's great to know though that Cathy Gale lives Very Happy

Yeah, I'm always so crap at talking to the slebs Embarassed which is probably why I'm not more of an autograph hunter.

Yeah, I got that impression too. People were very quick on their feet to start queueing so I guess they must have been to some of these events before.
(Apart from the fact that they started queuing at the wrong side of the room for Honor and so ended up at the back of the queue. Twisted Evil )
The guy in front of me in the queue was getting quite a few things signed by Honor. I'm quite happy with my two free signatures.

Panels are more my kind of thing and they were all very enjoyable.

It was a great event really enjoyed myself and was good to meet some of the members on here. Wish I wouldn't have called myself Big Bear though as a tad embarrassing on introduction and name badges would have been a nice touch, as a few of us wanted to say hello to other forum members!

I really hope Fantom Films holds more Avengers events in the future, a bit of constructive feedback from me would be, it would be nice nice if they had used the big widescreen TV's either side of the stage during the panel sessions to show clips with the actors being interviewed.

And maybe a bit of The Avengers music could have been played here and there. Very Happy

The really good thing is it felt like the fanbase is building up again, spoke to a few people who had recently gained more interest in the show due to the currant DVD's being released and what with the book and events next year this can only be a good thing for all of us. Very Happy

My very first Avengers event, and thoroughly enjoyed it!! I'll post more tomorrow (when I've had chance to catch up on my sleep!)

All the guests were very entertaining, giving us fascinating insights into their career and their time on The Avengers (albeit briefly for some of them!!)

It was great meeting some of you guys from this forum - Big Bear, The Gaslight Ghoul, Alan and others. I like the idea of badges or something for future events to identify us forum-ites! It'll make it easier for us to all say hello!

Many thanks for Big Bear for taking a photo of myself and Honor - will hopefully post this and other thoughts about the event tomorrow.

Here's to the next event!! Laughing Laughing

Riviere Kid - those are such cool photos! I didn't witness that happening - Ms Blackman's hand is clearly faster than the human eye!

Hi all,

I very much enjoyed the event, too! Many thanks to the organisers for doing such a great job in putting it together.
I also agree with some of the comments here. Video clips would have been great as probably not everyone got round to watching all the episodes before the event. And badges are definitely an idea for future events! Smile

I have uploaded a few photos I took at the event:

Enjoy!

I had on a bright blue star wars T-shirt... I did manage to chat to a couple of fans, and the two Lecturer from chichester about media; badges or something similar would be a great idea, and I do love badges Very Happy

Halfhide, Honor looks TINY. Or are you 7ft tall or something.

Great pic - thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more - any of the lovely Janet Hargreaves?
