Thanks Gabriel for the input. I've updated the article with this new information.
http://ianhendry.com/ian-hendry-and-the-avengers/
It has been suggested that The Girl In The Headlines (1964) was used as inspiration for the creation of Morse by Colin Dexter. Ian drove an old style Jag in the film and had similar character traits. I would need to watch it again to see whether that connection is justified, but an interesting thought nonetheless.
Best

Fascinating items there. Some of Ian's wife's comments are very frank, just like her husband's! _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

Outstanding Neil. Really nice photos and amazing you have the original contract. Did Ian save all these documents and papers you have or where did you ever find them? _________________ "He likes his tea stirred anti-clockwise." |

Yes, great stuff, Neil. Those documents were very interesting. Thanks for making them all available.
300 pounds per episode on The Avengers, wasn't it? I think by the time Ian did The Lotus Eaters in 1972 he was being paid about 500 pounds an episode. But by the time the taxman took his cut it's not that much. American TV series, on the other hand, pay far, far more. That's one of the hazards of working for British TV and the BBC in particular. _________________ Gabriel Hershman

Neil | That is amazing the salary they were getting for such a great show. I know Diana Rigg complained about the salary being about the same as the cameraman but I wonder if the salary was not based on gender. It is most remarkable that you are still finding more. Thank you for keeping us posted. _________________ "He likes his tea stirred anti-clockwise." |

Magnificent Neil! I just saw the show on youtube a few months ago. I loved the physical comedy Ian did. What are your memories of this if I may ask? Had to be quite exciting for you and your family. _________________ "He likes his tea stirred anti-clockwise." |

Hello again:) Yes, it was an amazing experience.....I was only 11, so you can imagine how exciting this all was.....we were told one week before the recording but sworn to secrecy......so I couldn't tell any of my friends or even talk about anything related to the show....and I didn't
The trip to London and the way we were looked after by Thames was superb...all very professional...and meeting Eamonn Andrews (who really personified TIYL), seeing behind the scenes...the show and meeting all the guests before and after was also memorable of course.....at that age you are just a 'sponge' that soaks in all these experiences......I gave a lot of anecdotes to Gabriel which are also now in the book too.... _________________ Neil Hendry

but there was a certain 'coolness' factor etc....doing material on the BBC or UK media, than doing or 'slumming' roles via american television etc |

That had to be incredibly exciting. And congrats to you for being able to keep quiet about it at that young age. Tthe book is a wonderful stocking stuffer for any Avengers fan. Happy Holidays to you and your family Neil! _________________ "He likes his tea stirred anti-clockwise." |
