I noticed he had a scar on his forehead in this film, something I've never noticed in any of his other films, so am I right in assuming it's just make-up for this one role? You can see it clearly in this photo.
| Yes, it's a fake scar. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

Thanks Franky, I thought as much. I think Ian's film career was as good as Honor's and Diana's, and possibly even better. He was terrific in The Hill, Repulsion, and Get Carter among others. I've noticed there are two of his films on youtube that I haven't seen before, Live now pay later and Jerusalem file. Has anyone seen these |

I haven't seen either of them, but I've heard Live Now Pay Later was very good, and influential. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

I sorta had that mindset..about Ian, and he had a pretty good body of work...and I wondered why he didn't have a larger body of work in the states, as his fellow UK actors, like patrick, Michael Caine, etc...the work was there...Perhaps, lack of decent promotion, agent shopping him around, and the specter of his drinking problems, led to his lack of U.S. work..I'm sure he was highly thought of in the UK, etc. |

Maybe being a bit younger than Macnee he didn't have that post-war, 1950s peripatetic career of USA, Canada, UK and back in rotation which would've got him known like Macnee was in North America. Or maybe it was something as simple and prosaic as not wanting to fly across the ocean! I should reread his biography to find out. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

could be very well...along that assumption...or it simply boiled down to his drinking...I remember reading about the making of Journey, and Gerry Anderson was ragging on about Ian....oh well....despite his problems, he was a great actor.. |

I've read that Ian made a series in 1966-67 called The Informer. Sadly the same fate befell this as season 1 of the Avengers, and only 2 episodes have survived out of the 21 made. Does anyone remember seeing this series? Is anyone old enough to remember it? I was only two when it was shown, so I've never seen it. What did you think of this series Does anyone know if the two episodes are available to watch anywhere Rich.

I've never seen any of it, I was born in 1968. But what a cast. Jean Marsh is always extremely good, as is Peter Bowles.

Also on the page is part of an interview with Ridley Scott who mentions his work on the series and Ian Hendry's quality as an actor

Thanks Franky. The Ian Hendry site is great. I've looked at it a few times but I didn't notice the info on The Informer before. I was hoping the two episodes were available somewhere on the net, as it looks a great series. It would be interesting to know how much the arrangement with the BFI would cost. |

I tried to see if it was on their BFI Player but a quick search seems to indicate it isn't. However, "researchers" can book a private viewing.
Fees information from their page: https://www.bfi.org.uk/bfi-national-archive/research-bfi-archive/research-viewing-services
"In certain circumstances we may be able to arrange research viewings at some of the UK’s regional film archives.
"Viewing fees are based on running time (the actual duration of the material requested and not the time spent viewing) and on the source material (film or video) to be digitised. They are charged at the following rates:
"Up to 60 minutes duration:
Film – £16 (UK students and concessions £10) plus VAT
Video – £11 (UK students and concessions £7) plus VAT
"Over 60 minutes duration, per additional 30 minutes:
Film – £8 (UK students and concessions £5) plus VAT
Video – £5.50 (UK students and concessions £3.50) plus VAT" _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

I think you'd just have to say you're working on a book or a fanzine article. They're not as rigid as closed archives like the BBC Written Archive Centre etc. It might help to be a BFI member, but that's easy if you're nearby anyway. I was a member when I lived in London because I wanted to go to the National Film Theatre events anyway. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

Thanks Franky. It sounds like anyone wishing to see it has got to go to London then. I won't be doing that any time soon, but I do remember there was a Lost TV convention here in my home city of Birmingham a couple of years ago. I'm sure this event was the first to show Tunnel of fear since its discovery. Hopefully there'll be another event in the near future. Maybe this convention is open to suggestions about what is shown. Rich. |

Thanks Frank. I'll look into that when it re-opens. In the meantime I've just watched Ian's film Live now pay later on youtube. It was very good, and Ian was quite convincing as the conniving salesman. The picture quality isn't brilliant, and the picture is quite wavy in places, but it's watchable enough. I hope a better print turns up one day! Highly recommended if anyone hasn't seen this yet. It's a real shame there isn't a dvd release of this film.

I've just bought This is my street on dvd. I saw this on Talking pictures a few months ago. It's a great underrated movie that Ian made in 1964. A kind of kitchen-sink drama, much like A mind of loving. Ian gave a terrific performance in this. It was nice to see Mike Pratt and Annette Andre in this film, a few years before their more famous collaboration.
