At lot of our members may (like me) not have English as their first language. But as it is the language used on this forum, so some of you might appreciate a little help with your English.

Mozilla Firefox, the internet browser, now offers that possibility in the latest version. If you install the third version of Firefox a language corrector should automatically be part of the software. Any misspelled word will get a red line underneath.

Do a right mouse button click and correct - or first install the English language dictionary. Bottom of the menu and then again the bottom of the menu.

Ask me if you have problems with installation.

It never ceases to amaze me the way in which non-English speakers make monolinguals like myself feel so lazy. I have great respect for people like you who communicate on forums like this and the old Avengers.TV Forum and actually apologise for their English not being perfect! You put us to shame, Allard.

Met vriendelijke groeten,

Alan

Well don't feel uncomfortable, I am not striving for perfect faultless English on this forum. I am offering this tool for those who feel insecure about their English. It's meant to make people feel more comfortable not less. I myself am very strict on spelling, because I have no talent for it, but I would not pick and point out other peoples mistakes.

Actually, re-reading what I wrote earlier, it looks like I wasn't as clear as I should have been - and me a native English speaker! Laughing

I didn't mean that it made me feel uncomfortable, though my wording makes it seem like it may have done. I mean that I strive to learn other languages (I have dabbled with learning some Dutch recently, for instance and am currently learning French) and that I am absolutely full of admiration for people like you who have achieved what you and others have in a foreign language, because I know it isn't easy at all.

Met vriendelijke groeten,

Alan

No I understood it wasn't criticizing, but it did made me realise that some people might find it pedantic.

Having lived in Holland, the Dutch ability to speak English better than the English and Americans do is evident everywhere you go. However, I have to say that computers' ability to correct grammatical errors is questionable; most of the time I find the spellcheck and other devices fairly useless.

I agree totally Alan! They shouldn't apologise - they are brilliant. I do have a second language from my 9 years in Espana but I must say I have lost some of it now... Crying or Very sad

Here is Allard using 'pedantic' - my family wouldn't even know the meaning of the word! Very Happy
