Does anyone else think that 150 Pounds is a bargain?

It is a bargain compared to the price of the individual series boxsets (although they're good value considering I paid 10 each for VHS videocassettes of two New Avengers episodes about 20 years ago).

As I already have the sets for Series 1/2-5 and have pre-ordered Series 6, I'm undecided on whether to get the complete set also - it will depend on what the extras are. I'm guessing that it might include a reconstruction of another lost series one episode. I'm really enjoying these and think I remember reading that 13 had been produced.

Good point. I remember paying the same, possibly a quid or two more, for my Lumiere videos in the early '90s, not to mention all the DVDs.

I'm perfectly happy to wait for the new discs. Especially as the run of Optimum discs have been a nightmare fault/error wise. Has there been a set released so far fault-free?

Don't understand how they can have released another set with faults!

Looking at more detail at the box I am concerned about the style. Sliding disks out of card can create lots of damage. Look at the Buffy box sets that were like books. Even with the 'improvement' of soft cloth being stuck on one side there were still problems. I ended up getting alot of empty DVD cases to store them in. . . . . . Ah maybe that will be a use for the old avengers DVDs I have. Use the boxes to store these new DVDs.

Would be nice if the extra disk was an extended edit of the Avengers film. Not long to go until it released and we find out.

That's DEFINITELY not on the bonus disc, much as I would love it to be.

Alan, I realise that if you do know what is on it, you won't be at liberty to say what is on it! However, might you be able to tell us when the contents might be announced? Smile

I do know some of the things that will be on the bonus disc, but as you say, until the announcement is made, I cannot comment. I'm afraid I have no information on when the announcement will be made.

a familar tale of woe...I've bought many sets, that had problems with roughing up discs..i.e. sliding them outta sleeves, etc...often ending up
with scratched discs...(sigh) I wish a little more common sense would be used, in designing box sets..

Items on the BBFC web site only appear to go up to the Season 6 box set so it lloks like we will have to wait for them to tell us or for our Post People to deliver the box.

So when will we see the New Avengers treated to DVD releases of the quality of the Avengers? I guess it is my age but I have always had a soft spot for the New Avengers as I saw it when it was new. I did not see the Avengers until C4 started and then when it came out on VHS.

The Anniversary boxed set has all the original discs with all the extras, plus a further disc of extras - TBA.

Only Alan knows what some of these are extra goodies are and we will be tieing him to a dentist's chair and aiming a laser beam at him for answers in due course.

I'm jesting of course ... Wink (I couldn't get hold of a dentist's chair).

I've read this box set is a limited collectors edition, so I'd doubt it's one of those things you can leave hoping the price will fall.

I'm still undecided - I only invested in the first/second season set.
Same here. Perhaps they should spend more time checking the releases for errors and less on designing fancy new ways to fleece the buyers.

I'm sure using emotive words such as "fleece" in this context really helps anyone. The harsh reality is that any company that manufactures and sells anything will want it to be viable. Nobody has to buy it... it's a quite separate issue from the question of whether people feel Optimum's quality control is satisfactory?

I know the entire contents of the bonus disc as I've put it together but I'm not at liberty to discuss it... yet

Sorry, I obviously meant "I'm not sure (using emotive words...)"

Well anticipating what might be on there is part of the fun.

I've been wracking my brain (didn't take long) what might be on there. Someone mentioned The New Avengers: K Is For Kill 'with' Emma Peel.

They might be surprised then!

Is it "commercially viable" to not check stuff for errors and then sell 3 out of 4 sets with major faults? I'll bet the replacements cost them more than checking the disks properly wuld have done.

I'm not interested in shelling out for a huge set where many of the disks and episodes have known problems (and goodness knows what'll be wrong with Season 6, but past performance says something will be). The scratch-making cardboard sleeves also put me off and don't make up for an unknown "bonus disk" whose material will probably be available later on its own anyway.

I hate to say it, but like "The Prisoner" it might be worth waiting for BluRays - companies now seem to treat DVD customers as very much second class citizens, and fix things for BluRay.

Sticking one small bonus in a megset released AFTER many of us bought the earlier sets is clearly cynicism. If it wasn't, they would have publicised the full set earlier to avoid the chance of fans double-dipping. I feel sorry for the more completist fans, who will be left with a lot of redundant disks.
