Has anyone bought the 5 box sets from cavalcade on either amazon or play.com. This company seems to be the best priced and most reliable judging by their feedback. I've decided against the complete box set as I've heard too many reports of poor packaging which marks the discs. Are cavalcade selling the corrected versions of all 5 box sets? And has disc 5 of series 6 been corrected yet, or is it best to wait a bit for the series 6 box set? Thanks. Rich.

The first 4, yes.

This company seems to be the best priced and most reliable judging by their feedback.
They vary from very helpful to totally uncommunicative, depending on who is on leave each week/month/quarter. Since they are the makers of the sets (Cavalcade = Canal) you'd think they'd be best placed to get the corrected disks, but no - they have to get them shipped in by a distributor, which led to them having just as many faulty sets as everyone else. Things seem to have improved recently though, as they've now sold most of the faulty stock.

I've heard the same.

Are cavalcade selling the corrected versions of all 5 box sets?
The first 4 out of the 5.

And has disc 5 of series 6 been corrected yet, or is it best to wait a bit for the series 6 box set? Thanks. Rich.
It has not been corrected in the separate season sets. I'm waiting until a replacement programme is in place.

Franky,
many thanks for the info. I'll get the first 4 sets now, and like you I'll wait til I hear more on the Tara set. Rich.

Rich, good plan. When you recieve the series 4 disks, you can check they have the version 2 number on the printed side (might need a magnifier if your eyesight is like mine!). It's only on the affected disks, not all of them needed new versions.

And the series 5 disks should have "V3" etched on the inner clear plastic ring around the hole.

I did some photos of my fixed ones, as examples:

Series 4 (disks 3 and 7 only):

Series 5 (all disks):
http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww153/Frankymole/series5.jpg

If you need any info about the faults/fixes on season 2, let me know.

Franky,
you read my mind! Laughing I was just wondering how I'll know if I've got the correct versions. I'm not sure what to look for on series 2, but if I remember correctly, is series 3 the only set that was right first time round? Also, if I ask cavalcade nicely, are they likely to send the correct versions rather than any faulty stock they have left?
Thanks for all the info, Rich.

Now that's what I call really helpful, Franky. We should make a sticky of the combined useful posts, do I have your permission to reuse these images?

I emailed Cavalcade as soon as I received series 5 to ask them if series 6 discs had been updated. They told me that they had had no news on the matter from Canal. (!)

Of course, go ahead by all means. I was having a look for the posting that listed the series 2 faults (and where to find them in the relevant episodes - timings etc) but no luck yet.

Here are the series 1+2 reports of faults, if you want to check your disks (given here with approximate timings from the beginning of the titles):

Disk 1 – On some players, the opening Optimum logo stutters alarmingly. One machine kept shutting down when I tried to play the Police Surgeon episode, another played it perfectly, some juggling may be needed to do to get the proper audio when played. Also, on some players the image gallery skips through at incredibly fast speed (fixed on the new version of the disk.)

Disk 3 - Propellant 23
At 48m 56s, just as Steed and Gale turn away from the wall, the picture breaks up (probably a problem with the print, rather than a new one, judging by the way it breaks up) and the words “NO DATA” pop up on screen in dirty great big red letters. It’s brief, but jumped out a mile when I was watching. There’s no way anyone bothering to check these discs for faults before release could have missed this. It drags you out of the story completely. If it had been in black and white it would have been bad enough, but red?!

Finder (both the above) = Richard Crowther

Disk 7 - Conspiracy of Silence
At 12m 36s I've just found a small chunk missing from Conspiracy of Silence - it seems like a strange edit. There's a scene between Carlo's wife and the Gutman. They go inside the caravan to the kitchen but it then jumps to the sitting room with the kitchen dialogue briefly carried over. Carlo's Wife and Gutman (Roy Purcell) have a conversation on the porch of the caravan and then move into the kitchen, Carlo's wife is saying something about Gutman working in a bingo parlour if it weren't for Carlo (something like that). We see her enter the kitchen whilst saying this line, then half way through this line we suddenly see a shot of Gutman entering the sitting room, the line continues but loses the end. It's less than 10 seconds at a guess but there's an exchange at the sink in the kitchen about Dr. Barnardos and charity or something. She goes into the sitting room and he follows her.

Finder = Warren Andrews

Disk 6 - The Golden Eggs
At approximately 2m 30s, just after the title credit, Steed and Cathy are eating breakfast. The initial shot shows Steed cutting the cereal packet, but then there's a jump, and Cathy's already got the newspaper and they're both in the middle of the conversation about the break-in at the lab. I checked this against my R1 dvd copy by A&E, and there's a missing minute here! Missing is Steed's talking about the kids, giving Cathy a 'present,' talking about having her move in, looking at the boxes in the corner, Cathy's request for the newspaper, and Cathy's question, 'Is this what you wanted me to read?' (or some such line), having noticed the circled bit in the paper.

Bizarrely, this missing material IS found later in the programme after Peter Arne is speaking with his mole from the lab and suggests that he only wants 'information', from her; he's not asking her to kill anyone.

Finder = illya

Soon?! How quiet do we have to be for a wait of less than 5 months?!

It's probably best if you email Optimum direct for an answer to this one

I know I've made the odd niggle about the dvds now and again.. but on the whole I'd like to say thank you for your part in producing these to such a high standard (and to the rest of the Optimum team too).

May I ask? Are you involved in the alleged production of a book of the 'Diana' comic strips to appear later in the year?

If it does appear, it will be top of my christmas present list this year.

What is the email address for Optimum? I sent discs for replacement back in May and still haven't received the corrected discs.

You and me both. I'm awaiting series 5 and series 6 to reach me. I've emailed but heard nothing yet (that was two weeks ago). I've had replies in the past though. It's probably the usual of they've had a very large number of returns and are slowly working their way through.

You could try: info@optimumreleasing.com or Tom.Austin@optimumreleasing.com

Whilst I still appreciate that Optimum have done these replacement continuously, the speed of sending out leaves a lot to be desired.

Has anyone emailed Optimum and had a response? Especially as to the "Legacy of Death" replacement?

With previous replacements, I've had responses but I've heard nothing this time in relation to where on earth my series 5 and 6 discs are - I'm sort of half heartedly/optimistically hoping that they're delaying sending me them until they throw in a Legacy of Death disc which I didn't send back.... hey I can dream).

I suppose if they post a load in one go it saves on petrol, with only one trip to the PO!

I shot another email off earlier in the week, and after getting no response, was very happy to arrive home from work today with my series 5 and series 6, disc 1 replacements waiting for me.

Now only an announcement about Legacy of Death waiting.Smile

There hasn't been an announcement, but a trusted poster on the Dr Who forum has received a fixed "Legacy of Death" disk today. It took 2 months from sending off, and a couple of weeks after a "we're sending it tomorrow" response to a chaser email...

What's the current email address, and the postal address to send for replacements? I might send off my series 6 disks next week.
