I've been reading, this morning, about Elizabeth Shepherd's involvement here:
http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/british-television/108823-avengers-starring-elizabeth-shepherd.html

Next time I watch 'The Town Of No Return' I'll look out for her hand on the parish records book (and the other continuity errors mentioned). There are lots of things I'm discovering!

That's interesting - thanks for posting the link. I've just finished re watching the Cathy Gale episodes and will be starting on the Emma Peel's next week, so I'll look out for her hand too!

I was reading in The Professionals thread in Roobarb's forum that "Brian Clemens says the negatives and masses of outtakes, screen tests etc from The Professionals (likely the Anthony Andrews footage) and The Avengers (likely the Elizabeth Shepherd footage) are all stored in the Mark 1/Avengers Enterprises vault".

http://www.zetaminor.com/roobarb/showthread.php?2489-The-Professionals&p=1370721&viewfull=1#post1370721

It would be great it this were true! Very Happy

Yeah, it would be great. Smile
But, if this would be true, why didn't they add this material e.g. as special feature to the latest DVDs or show it?

Sincerely yours,

My first thought is always legal issues, that there's something to do with rights that keeps them from releasing stuff like this. I admit I have trouble working out why Avengers/Mark One would have copies of the Shepherd footage. Avengers/Mark One was the independent production company created by Clemens, Fennell, and Laurie Johnson, which made TNA and The Professionals. Any Elizabeth Shepherd footage that exists would have been shot under the auspices of ABC, and so wouldn't be under Mark One's purview at all, so I find it difficult to work out why Mark One would have the footage in among its Professionals stuff--if it has any Avengers stuff, I'd assume it'd be TNA footage, because they'd own the rights to that. That might be the problem, though--Mark One owns the physical footage, but doesn't have the rights to release it, whereas presumably Canal+ would, but doesn't have the actual films.

I would absolutely love to see Avengers outtakes, though. We sort of have ones built right into seasons 2 and 3 because of the way they were shot, but I'd love to see footage of Diana, Linda, and (especially) Gareth and Joanna fluffing lines and the like. It'd be great if something like that surfaced. Very Happy

Okay, now I'm confused. So, Clemens said the Shepherd episode, at least some bits, might still exist ! Surprised
I conclude then that no one has ever ventured into the Mark 1/Avengers archives ! (Jaz Wiseman, if you're reading the discussion, would it be possible for you to explore that place ? Surprised Very Happy ).

Could someone explain me why some material cannot be released because of certain 'rights' ?
So, all the 'lost Bryce episodes' may have been preserved but protected by rights and agreements, then ? Oh my...

Any solution to all this ?

First off, the way the post from Roobarbs is worded, it sounds like the poster is speculating that the Elizabeth Shepherd footage could be in among the other archived things. There's nothing there to indicate that Brian said the Shepherd footage, or anything else in particular, was there. So it's all pie in the sky at this point.

That goes for my post as well. If there is stuff floating around in the Mark One archive, and it hasn't been released, my guess is there might be rights issues, but there's no indication as to whether that's the case or not. It may be simply the case that no one has gone through it yet, so no one has released it simply because they don't know it's there. I suspect if things like the Bryce footage existed but were entangled in rights issues, we'd have heard about it.

I remember Jaz saying that he certainly didn't see any trace of the Shepherd/Bryce footage in the original series archives where they're stored, I believe, at Pinewood. Of course many hands owned the archives and they probably moved around a bit. I depends on how long the raw elements were retained. Stuff from the Rigg years was used in Homicide and Old Lace minus music so they must have kept a bit (maybe). It's interesting to speculate.

It's still just wishful thinking at the moment about any surviving footage.

I would expect that if the Mark1 archives have lots of stuff like out-takes and screen tests that we haven't seen them as the New Avengers has never been given a full bodied DVD release.

All the more reason for them to put one out, then. Wink

Hi JohnSteedFr,
I have already talked to Brian about this some years ago and there are no out-takes, Elizabeth Shepherd or John Bryce episodes in the Mark1 vault. It's Professionals and New Avengers materials. Send me a personal message.

Cheers
Jaz

If anyone's lamenting the lack of a calendar designed by Jaz and including daily tidbits of Avengers history, I've updated my Diary page to give you a traditional print-style calendar - you can do the whole year if you want! ANY year!

180 images, randomly selected, so no two are likely to be the same.

http://www.dissolute.com.au/avweb/diary.html

At this point, I recommend pasting the result into Word or whatever you use for that sort of thing, as browser print engines are not great at doing the correct shrink-to-fit decisions.

I'll see if I can tighten up the print CSS to fix this but the waters are murky...

Nice work, Piers! It's nice because it gives you different pictures than the usual ones that are recycled in the calendar. Very Happy

Yes, I must admit the 2012 calendar is not up to the standard of the early calendars. I've kept them all from 1998-2010. They looked a real labour of love. Cool This years is very plain in comparison. A shame about no calendar for 2011, but I designed my own and had it printed by vistaprint. Cost me 11 but I was pleased with how it turned out. Amazon are advertising a 2013 Avengers calendar. Does anyone know anything about it? I hope it's not similar to this years, as all it has are 12 posters using shots that are in the 25th anniversary book, no little photos or factoids on the opposite page which I loved in the old style calendars. Rich.

The 2013 Calendar was supposed to have been issued July 31st but is still unavalable on amazon, and they don't know if or when it will be on sale. While it was nice to see it back after a year off, if last year's calendar is the sign of things to come, I'm not sure I want to buy any more. The classic calendars are 1998-2010. They still look great, and were much more than just a calendar. Rich.

I had the same problem last year as I ordered the 2012 calendar.
They told me, that it would be available in June, but I finally got in August or September...
Hope, it will not take any more time to wait for it...

Sincerely yours,

I have this years calendar as well. I like it, but was disappointed that there are no holidays listed on it.

It's strange that there is not a new James Bond calendar for 2013. There wasn't one for 2012 either.

I may take a look though at the Avengers one for 2013 if there is one.

Hopefully both end up coming out and I have to decide! : )

I actually had the Avengers 2013 calendar pre-ordered on Amazon earlier this year, but had the order cancelled by Amazon as they said it was no longer available. I see it is still listed on Amazon, but not available to order at the moment. I'll keep checking to see if the status changes, but I'm not holding my breath. Sad

I have to add that last year's calendar does look rather a lazy effort when compared to the earlier ones, which were full of rare posters. They were quite "busy" looking calendars full of little pics as well, and snippets of info. More like a book. The 2012 calendar was not in the same league. It merely reproduced 12 posters from the Anniversary book, and nothing more added. If there are more calendars to come, I hope they are of the earlier standard. Rich.

That's what Amazon told me first, too.
Then I've ordered it some weeks later again and then I got it...
