apparently the film is available to view in HD via Amazon On Demand.

Crazy. I am noting there are so many films in HD on that service that are not currently out on blu ray!

I do talk in great detail about The Avengers movie in my upcoming book Bowler Hat and Kinky Boots and having a copy of the shooting script I have to say that there is a lot less missing than everyone thinks. To be honest the amount of missing footage is small compared to what various places on web state. The whole thing about missing footage has been greatly exaggerated.

Is the book available for preorder?

Lando, yes the book can be pre-ordered from the Telos website www.telos.co.uk

There is also a thread running for it on the merchandise section.

Iím aware of Michael Kamenís involvement in the film, but are you aware of Nicholas Meyerís involvement?

Wow! No how was Nick Meyer involved?

I hate to say this, bit its all in the book.

Oh. You'll be surprised how even a few seconds difference in a few scenes, might ruin a movie.

Of course you would have to be knowledgeable about movie editing to begin with.

Depends on what was actually cut out - I agree that the film was probably more coherent with the added footage (at least, one would hope, though it's not a given), but that does not necessarily change the performances. Knowing something about cinema, I find it very difficult to believe that Thurman's Emma Peel would suddenly undergo a seismic shift at the discovery of an extra five minutes.

For some reason the item is no longer available for pre order and the release date is now missing on amazon. I check another retailer (Best Buy) and they still list the preorder and the on sale date in August.

Very strange.

I read online in a forum post that WB and Amazon have some problems with data at times? Not sure. Here's hoping it means that they are updating the release to include special features and the director's Cut. I know... : )

I made that mistake......saw the film on opening day, and then viewed it again shortly thereafter, just to comfirm in my mind what a disaster it really was. The second time around was no better.

It was my introduction to The Avengers. It's a bit of a mess, but I actually think it's entertaining. I dunno. It's not great, but I do enjoy watching it once in a while.

Hopefully a full SE blu ray edition is done in the future. I'd really like to see the full version of the film that was screened, but never shown during its theatrical run.

The Saint (1997) is another film that they should release the alternate ending on...

I really cannot see Warner Brothers going to the trouble of replacing the missing material in this film, as the missing segments could have been destroyed back in the late nineties.

Take the sixties Casino Royale as an example. This film also has material missing, but Columbia/Sony have never gone to the trouble of reinstating it as a special edition.
