Bought mine at the Avengers 50th. It's a marvellous double album, and Howard Blake was charming.

Good ole' Silvascreen.Smile

I really wasn't expecting it so quickly but it arrived this morning. Only had a flick through the booklet but it looks wonderful. Can't wait to listen to it when I get home from work later.

What a great CD.

A big thank you to everyone involved it getting in released.

What I love about it is that it's surprising. I've watched many of the episodes countless times and it's been exciting to find bits and pieces that weren't used in the episodes and some that were used in other episodes yet didn't feature where they were composed for. There's loads of superb music from Noon Doomsday that wasn't used. I noted some fight music from All Done With Mirrors that was only used in "Game" and "Who was that man...", judging from the length I would assume fitted Tara's fight with the man in the garden (but Johnson's Never Never Say Die music was used instead). Another piece from ADWM wasn't used but turned up in You'll Catch Your Death (which Blake didn't do).

I think Noon Doomsday is probably my favourite selection as it really goes for the whole western feel.

I received my copy this morning direct from Silva Screen Records. I have to say I'm very impressed with how this product has been put together. Lots of great pictures and plenty of info. The Tara King Season is my personal favourite so this release is perfect for me.

Very reasonably priced too Very Happy

Listened to it entirely last night. Huge surprise...Unlike the Laurie Johnson CDs released a couple of years ago, this edition features actually some passages that don't appear in the final cut of the episodes we all know. Then, you take the NOON DOOMSDAY score, you'll hear more. It sounds like a Spanish bullfight action sequence. Very Happy

I recommend it to all of you. BUY IT !!!

You might need glasses Noel as the track listing inside the booklet clearly have the running times for each track. As for the copyright date, perhaps you should bring that up with Studio Canal as those are the dates that they wanted included.

Now had the pleasure of listening to this through a couple of times, and it's a real delight to have this work made commercially available. The quality is wonderful and it makes the listening experience particularly enjoyable. Presumably, Howard was only commissioned for partial scores on many occasions (with these to be used in conjunction with existing cues), but it's so lovely to hear the themes that he conjures up for his episodes. Although "Noon Doomsday" isn't a favourite of mine as an episode, the score is something which I've always enjoyed, so it was terrific to have all that ... plus all the distinctive cues which add so much to "Games", "Wish You Were Here" and "Take Me To Your Leader". Furthermore, Howard has composed something with great skill which builds upon Laurie's style so that it can sit happily alongside existing cues on the episodes rather than jarring badly with it (like on episodes of "The Champions" where cues by Robert Farnon, Edwin Astley and Albert Elms are all just lobbed in together ...) It's all beautifully presented and packaged too, and a real bargain to my mind!

Many thanks to Jaz, Howard and the guys at Silva Screen for all their hard work on this one. Very much appreciated! Smile

All the best

Andrew

Now had a chance to listen to these CDs and agree they're wonderful - in my opinion the best Avengers music CD released to-date. The sound quality is fantastic and the booklet's informative with some great pictures. A bargain at only 9.99. Thanks to everyone involved with this project.

I just finished listening to the CD's and they are fantastic.
I'd known for a while that Howard Blake had contributed to the Tara King season, but I didn't know that he had scored a whole 10 episodes (even though his style is somewhat different from Laurie Johnson's, IMHO his scores still blend in pretty seamlessly with the other Tara King episodes scores).
A thousand thanks to Jaz and everyone else involved in the production of these awesome CD's.

Love this shot, haven't seen it before.

Indeed a very lovely shot - had a lot of fun cutting this out in photoshop for the booklet!

You clearly did a brilliant job.Smile

Sooo looking forward to this especially Take Me To Your Leader.

If I'd had the time I would have colourised too but that takes a bit longer!

I had a go at colourising it but I was a bit nervous about posting it, since you could have done a better job.

By the way here an official website for Howard Blake I came across

I listened to this yesterday for the first time since the Chichester event. Howard's music really is superb and it's great to have on while I'm working. Now if we could only find those ABC acetates we could do something similar for the Honor Blackman seasons!

I regularly listen to the Howard Blake CD and can only hope we will one day have similar offerings with the early Blackman scores and some more from Laurie Johnson!

One of the great things about the CD is that it includes music not used, loads from Noon Doomsday that really stunning.

Silvascreen have always done some great work and I really hope we can have some more Laurie Johnson scores that are purely Avengers without having to be padded out with his other work which whilst good, I'm not interested in.

Having recently watched "Game" again, I noticed there were quite a few music cues not featured on the album (I'm not including samples used of Laurie Johnson's compositions) such as the Brigadiers crash in the field and the rest of the finale in Bristow's "game", it got me wondering how much of Howard Blake's music was not included and if there was enough for a follow up? Any ideas?

I think his music really helped breath new life in this season which still remains my favourite.
