It has been reported that director Robert Fuest has died. He was a production designer on 10 of the VT episodes, and directed 7 of the Tara King series, returning to direct 2 of the New Avengers.

His other work includes the two cult Dr Phibes movies, plus films such as The Devils Rain, Final Programme and And Soon the Darkness

A genuinely kind, gentle, talented and considerate man. He was a delight to work with and was always quick to point out those who influenced or helped him along the way. He will be sadly missed.

Another name that popped up everywhere, gone. So sad. My thoughts are with his family. Sad

He was my favorite director. 'Game', simply the best Avengers episode.

One of my favourite directors, and as Patrick Macnee has said, perfect for The Avengers. RIP.

Very sad. Loved those Dr. Phibes movies.

Oh another one of my favourite directors leaves us.

A director so perfect for The Avengers, creating some wonderfully stylish and exciting visuals even if the story was lacking.

RIP Bob.

He served a period of time in post-war Germany with the Air Force in National Service air-lifting coal over the Berlin Wall.

He had his painting exhibited at the Royal Academy ever since 1951.

Fuest has also spent time as a drummer in a warm-up band for Chris Barber and George Melly.

Here's a link to a few examples of his paintings:

A very big blow. His style of directing brought something extra to The Avengers.

I saw Just Like a Woman (1966) for the first time the other day. The pre-occupation with unusual sets and eccentric characters within a strong 1960's vibe inevitably reminds me of The Avengers. Although I haven't seen it in about twenty years, probably my favourite film by Mr. Fuest is still The Final Program (1973) with the amazing Miss Brunner (Jenny Runacre).

It was 'Just Like A Woman' that Albert Fennell saw and thought "This guy's an Avengers director".

I really disliked "Just Like a Woman", but "The Final Program" is really good. Confusing and completely bonkers but fun.
