I agree, at first I didn't real notice 12 but it grows on me. |

Definitely. They're all so different, it makes the choice a real chore. 1 and 2 have a crisp winter serenity, 3 through 11 have a convivial, festive quality, and 12 and 13 have those rich reds that remind of classic, vintage Christmases. It makes it a really hard choice! _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

It makes it a really hard choice! | You're telling me. I agonised for days. I love bright colours, especially as December is so bloody miserable here. But even the more monochrome designs have so many points of interest and lively ideas, they were still well in the running. My Avengers prejudices do come to the fore - after all, I prefer the monochrome eras to the colour Emmas - and I especially love to see the sainted Joanna, who encapsulates the emancipated spirit of Avengers femininity for me..... I could never vote for a banner that had only Emma and Steed. That's not 'The Avengers' to me, just a populist subset of it. I love animation, and Steed is the still strong centre of the show, but for me its all down to the plural in the title - Avengers, not Avenger. That even trumps bright colours. I voted for the one where everyone looked happiest - the way the show makes me feel. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

I will too, if that's allowed. I will say that one of them is just begging for a backstory, and a little tiny one popped in my head. I'll post it when everything's finished, if anyone's interested. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

Ditto. I was tempted to vote for that one, and #2, 1, 5, 9, 11, 12...well, all of them, really. Ended up going for #6, and I'm thrilled because things I vote for never seem to win. Like Franky, I like it when all the Avengers get a look-in, and it has the lovely convivial atmosphere of a really festive Christmas party. Cathy and Emma look they're having a nice friendly chat in the corner. It's just screaming for a little story, and I'll post the little fragment that popped into my head if there's no objection.
Congratulations to Newdoberman, and well done to all the entrants! _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

Delighted that we have a new banner at the head of the forum to celebrate Christmas. Newdoberman's design will do that with style and panache. Well done, a worthy winner.
For my own part, I'm disappointed that my actual favourite, No. 2 by Darren, didn't quite make it, but am delighted that my own five-minute design (No. 4) garnered a vote. I didn't really expect it to! _________________ Alan

I actually thought #2 was going to be the winner when I first saw the selection. It's gorgeous. And I quite liked yours as well, Alan. I can't believe you put it together in 5 minutes. I doubt I could make anything half as good in 5 hours. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

I'd missed out on entering the competition for the last two years and this time I thought "throw together an entry quickly, then do another when I have a bit more time". As expected, the "bit more time" never came!
I say "five minutes". Probably half an hour. _________________ Alan

Even so, it's lovely. I would have scraped something together, but I just couldn't squeeze any more hours out of the day. So kudos for even getting one nice entry in there. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

I like to try and work out who did what. Some people have a certain signature style and I think I managed to suss out one of Darren's - the animated one - and definitely one of Sinus' but the rest I had no idea. Although I actually thought no. 13 was by Timeless for some reason ..
My favourite was entry no. 11 as in my opinion it had the most 'Avengers appeal', especially with the Tara-era 'Target' snowmen. My eye kept involuntary drifting towards that one, so I had to chose it.
So well done Newdoberman, who did win (with another entry) anyway, but they were all worthy and I bow with admiration to all of them.
My final top three were 11, 6, 4.
By the way: I can only see the banner in IE. I can never see the Avengers fan forum banner, festive or otherwise, in Firefox. Anyone else have that problem? _________________

I tried to work out who did what, too, and I only got as far as Darren and Sinus' entries. I actually thought you'd made #13, Dandy. Funny that...
As I said before, when I saw the winning entry, I thought there just had to be a little story for the scene because it was so wonderfully put together--it really does look as though all our Avengers have gotten together for a bright and cheery Christmas party. Anyway, a snippet popped into my poor sleep-deprived brain that I thought I'd share. Just a bit of silly Christmas fun. Hopefully Newdoberman doesn't mind.
Quote: | It really was too small a couch for four people, but somehow personal space didn’t matter as much once you got a few of Purdey’s famous “Purdka eggnogs” in you. They also contained some magical property that enabled Tara to beat Steed at Steedopoly four times in a row, and if Steed hadn’t left Gambit in charge of the music, no one would ever have known how good Mrs. Gale’s rendition of Slade’s “Merry Christmas Everybody” was. Dr. Keel had to insist on collecting everyone’s car keys at the end of the night. But in all the excitement, no one noticed when Emma “accidentally” dropped a Christmas card signed “Boofums” into the fireplace... |
Merry Avengersmas. Watch out for the killer Santas. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

Thanks a million everyone. All the entries were amazing so I'm even more delighted and honoured to see my banner at the top of the page.
Love the backstory, feel free to use it as a jumping off point. Thanks again for the votes and well done to everyone who entered |
