Hello to all of you and your marvelous forum. OK why the name anti-clockwise?
Well it is important. That is the way Steed liked his tea stirred. Those were the instructions from the Mrs. Peel to Tara!
I am from the US specifically live in California. I am especially fascinated in this website and hearing about the inner workings of the show.
I watched the Avengers in the US as a child and just adored the show. I don't think I ever saw Cathy Gale era. I don't think it was broadcast here.
But I am getting the box set. the problem in the US now is it is virtually impossible to get the DVD's anymore. Oh how i wish I had an address in the UK and would buy it from amazon. I just bought the DVD's and now I may have to get a regional DVD player as it may not work on a US DVD player!
Well it will all be sorted out.
Cheers!

I can't quite tell if you know this from your post, but you can order things from the UK Amazon site even if you don't live in the UK. Once you have an Amazon account, it'll work at all the various Amazon sites worldwide. I've ordered things from the Canadian, American, British, and French Amazon sites and never had any problems. The only issue is that the shipping can be fairly high. I recommend putting in one big order as opposed to several smaller ones to save on shipping.

You might not need to invest in a new DVD player, either. Most DVD players can be hacked to be region free. If you google the model of your player, you can probably find a way to do it. It usually involves pressing a series of buttons on the remote in a certain order. I've had three DVD players and hacked all of them successfully to play region 2 DVDs (I'm Canadian, so our players are in the same region as yours). The region issue really is immensely frustrating, as most of the shows I want on DVD often are never issued over here, making the regions rather pointless--there's no North American release to "protect." Rolling Eyes

Hopefully some of that's helpful. The Gale episodes didn't initially run in the US in the 1960s, though I believe they did finally get a screening in the 1990s. If you've never seen them, then you're lucky to have a whole era to discover. Good luck! Very Happy

Thank you so much for the warm welcome Timeless A-peel!! You know I appreciate the explanation. For some reason when I read the Amazon UK site I thought it said that the video could only be sent to a UK address! I obviously read that incorrectly. So you just saved me probably a hundred dollars! Seriously on the US Amazon site the DVD is going for almost $300 being sent from Germany!!! On Uk site it's 103 pounds or $160. That is just crazy!!
You are so helpful also on the DVD issue! Brilliant idea to google it! I seem to forget that option! That will save me a lot of hassle. Hope it works for a blu ray DVD. Again thank you for the warm welcome!

You're very welcome. Very Happy You may have read the shipping policy of an individual selling via Amazon--some Amazon Marketplace sellers won't ship out of country. But anything available via Amazon itself will ship anywhere if you're willing to pay for it--you definitely won't qualify for free shipping! Wink

I don't have a Blu-Ray player, so I'm afraid I can't help you on region issues with Blu-Ray discs. Someone else here may know. The Avengers has yet to pop up on Blu-Ray, though, so it's not yet an issue on that front.

Fabulous Time A-Peel! I am buying you a bottle of champagne. Cheers!
I still can't believe the outrageous fortune they are trying to get for it in the Amazon market in the US.
I can't figure out what the shipping costs will be from the UK but I figure it can't be too much relative to the cost of the item.

Welcome, anti-clockwise! I hope you are enjoying delving into the forum.

If you aren't already familiar with them, there are two lovely detailed websites that I have been enjoying, and you might like them too, especially as you are interested in the workings of the show:

The Avengers Forever

The Avengers Declassified

Both were created and are run by very clever Avengers afiocionados, and are full of gems, although TAF is mostly dormant these days.

The links to the other main sites are at: http://theavengers.tv/index.htm

Enjoy the forum, it's great Smile

The complete German set on Amazon.de is $163.73 (converted from 127.03) at today's exchange rate. I'm tempted to order it myself!

The German set includes The New Avenegrs (albeit not remastered), but not the Special features disk that the UK set had. That's available separately from the UK though, quite cheaply.

Ah, cheers! Glad to be of help. Smile

If you put together an Amazon order and go through checkout, they'll show you the shipping costs before you commit to the order. There's also a handy chart here you can use to work out shipping costs by country.

Well I have great news. A few days ago I was thinking i would have to shell out $300 for the DVD's on the US amazon site. I was happily surprised that the 103 GBP that the UK amazon site sells it for got decreased to 89 GBP because of a UK VAT (tax) that got deducted. So all in all it's just $137!
Thanks for all the help.

Now the next part is rigging my DVD player Timeless A-Peel!!
Thanks again and thank you for the warm welcome!

You know what would be really fun? Watching some shows together!! Come on over to my flat and I'll have the champagne ready to go! i am sure you would have wonderful insights into the show.

Thank you so very much. I don't think I ever worked harder to get a DVD set but it was well worth it.

BTW Frankymole does your translate page work for the German Amazon site?

I have a lot of trivia rattling around in my brain, this is true. Laughing I haven't watched an episode in awhile, to be honest. I bought the 50th Anniversary set a few months back, but have yet to pop any of the discs in due to being horribly behind on everything in life, including my TV. I'm hoping I'll catch up over the summer and actually get back to the Avengers for the first time in a few years. Smile

Well you do have a lot of info on the show looks like you have collected for years! I know what you mean though. you have to be in the mood for it. I am a fan of the show Wild Wild West from the 60's and I haven't seen a show in a long while but am just not yet in the mood for it. I am on the fan forum often.

I've accumulated a fair bit, yes, though there are quite a few people who have loads more stuff, much of which I'd love to have a look at. But not having it is part of the fun. Wink

I know what you mean. I watched the show quite a bit for awhile there (especially certain eras), and then as I went on to other things, I sort of ended up resting it without ever really consciously planning on it. Fandom goes in fits and bursts--interest wanes and then perks up again. I feel like I'm on the upswing again, so I'm quite keen to look at the DVDs once I've caught up on a few other things.

So true. Thank goodness it will now be preserved for us. It was touch and go there for awhile. All I can say is there will never be another Avengers!!

I don't use a translate page (didn't know there was one!); I've used the English and French Amazon sites in the past, so the similar layout of the German site wasn't too hard to follow, even if I struggled with a lot of the compound words... I did think about ringing up my Austrian friend to translate some over the phone, but it was 8:30pm and I didn't want to bother her that late in the evening...
