Can't speak for Alys (who I know is more an Emma Peel/Tara King fan), but my favourite episodes, based on what we know are Toy Trap and The Radioactive Man. The Far Distant Dead also sounds fascinating (as do many of them, to be honest).
The quality of 'The Girl on the Trapeze' does seem to back up the interesting-soundingness (?) of the others. I am sure the series must've been seen as something new and fascinating at the time, otherwise it would never have survived the actors' strike and then Hendry leaving. The audience could see there was something amazing there (before the 60s even started to swing) and when Honor/Cathy appeared it cemented its relationship with that young hip audience, the Chelsea set etcetera. It must've been an amazing time to be a TV watcher and my mum missed it all as she was serving in Germany so I can't even ask her what it was like (similarly, in 1963/4 she thought Dr Who and the Daleks was a pop group) Rolling Eyes

Do you know roughly how long it takes to arrive by mail (following despatch) in the UK? The Lulu guidE to postal types lists "priority mail" for the UK but not the plain "mail" option shown on their despatch note.

Go for the cheapest mail option. Hardcovers take 2 weeks to get to the UK (printed in USA), paperbacks are printed locally and take about a week.

They are much nicer, but then I'm a bit of a hardcover bore, so I would say that!

Thanks for ordering. Every little helps Declassified. Smile

Incidentally, when I said two weeks, I should have said "about". It's two weeks from dispatch, give or take a few days.

Alan's book is very professionally produced and an absolute joy to read through. I'm sure that all Ian Hendry aficionados will also appreciate the dedication to Ian.

Congratulations again to Alan and Richard for producing such a meticulously researched book. Let's hope that more missing episodes are retrieved one day.

Get it, people, while you can. It's the best representation of the Avengers' first season you'll ever have! Best book of the year.

THE STRANGE CASE OF THE MISSING EPISODES -
The Lost Stories of The Avengers Series 1

In the mid-Sixties, The Avengers proved itself to be a cultural phenomenon. Despite its quintessential Englishness, it transcended international barriers, and established itself as British television’s most successful export of the day.

Today, it remains hugely popular, perhaps because of the schizophrenic nature of the show as it developed; it was a series of many colours, with something for everyone. But the earliest episodes of the show have, since their 1961 broadcast, disappeared from view, the vast majority of the recordings lost forever.

The Strange Case of the Missing Episodes lifts the lid on that first year, and retells the stories in extended synopsis form, covering twenty-four episodes, often with script extracts, in greater depth than ever before. The book also boasts a detailed introduction, which explores how these much sought after programmes came to be lost, and a detailed retelling of an alternative, untransmitted version of the episode Double Danger.

This title is available in two editions:
• Deluxe Hardcover with Dust Jacket £19.99
• Perfect Bound Paperback £14.99

228mm x 152mm - US Trade Size
296 pages - English language

Published 6th June 2013

Hi Mike,

I've never had trouble with the site, but then I always choose the option to pay with Paypal. If you have an account, that might be the best option if you are concerned about the security.

All the best,

Alan

As well as the content.
The book includes not only information about the first season, but dips in the tour of the surviving materials of the season, as well as little-known material in the preface that you will not find on the website of Alan Hayes.
It is a quality researches of Richard McGinley (primarily), who forces me "to read it to the holes" when book first came into my hands. Well, there is something to pay attention, although initially I was expecting just the publication of material from The Avengers Declassified.
I still have thanks to Alan for this work and hope that followed continued.
The book does not leave you indifferent and will surely give new knowledge.

As a tie-in with the launch of digital versions of The Strange Case of the Missing Episodes, if you order (or have ordered) any edition of the book, just drop us a line at hiddentigerbooks@virginmedia.com to get a free copy of the only Steed and Keel story that was never broadcast - 'The Drug Pedlar'.
