Astounding that the US release will be $21 discounted from $30 compared to £57 discounted from £80...

That puts the UK sets $103/£62 more expensive each, undiscounted, or $73.50/£44.50 more expensive with the discount.

Outrageous!

Fantastic news and glad I waited! I predicted it would just be a matter of time 4 years ago when the initial Avengers series 4 was supposed to be released in Britian. I am very surprised the US got a release so soon. Series 4 being released in the UK and France during the same time frame so I expect the rest of the Emma Peel and Tara King episodes to be released. I would love to see the Cathy Gale episodes on dvd as they were shot on 405 line standard at the time so dvd will capture all the resolution available.

I am hoping the set is not only 3 discs as some are advertising. That is damn 7 hours of content per disc. 4-4.5 hours max per disc would be far better and not downgrade picture quality. Until official release info comes out I have a hard time believing this to be true. Hoping all the extra content is there as well. I can't imagine it wouldn't be.

Lastly $30 retail. More than likely $20 or less on sale. An absolute steal!!!

Doing some quick calculations for a 50gb disc I am at 16 mbps for video and I haven't added in the DTS-HD 5.1 track yet. This 3 disc set better be a misprint for the US set! I downloaded From Venus with Love and fully believe it is the newer SC remastered version due to the color timing changes. I fully expect 4:3 versions. Here is hoping for more discs and the extras from the previously released SC dvd set available in Britian.

Forgive my ignorance but what does "SC" mean?

Pre ordered!! Any news on the transfers?

Hope all of the series eventually comes to the US.

I picked up the 50th Anniversary DVD set about a year and a half ago.

Is season 4 blu ray set region locked to the UK region B?

This is completely weird. Season 4 looks like it is available only for Europe for 56 GBP is that region 2? And season 5 is available for a mere $20 in US for season 5, I assume region 1. I guess they think in the US season 5 will be more marketable. why is it so much cheaper in US.? this is a complete switch.

I wrote Lionsgate on this. I suggest others do the same. general-inquiries@lionsgate.com

"The is in reference to The Avengers season 5 on bluray. Reports are showing this to be a 3 disc set. That is 8, 52 minute episodes on a BD-50. So we are talking a bitrate or around 13 mbps by the time you add in the 5.1 dts-hd track. We haven’t included the extras yet either that are extensive for fans of the series and owned by studio canal so it would be foolish not to include them. I would say 5 episodes max per disc to maintain any measure of quality. If you need to raise the price do so! It is fantastically priced but for a show of this significance it deserves far better than 13 mbps video. Now if the 3 disc info released was in error my apologies. I look forward to hearing your response."

I mailed Studio Canal in the UK about the BD releases of The Avengers in the UK. Series 4 is scheduled for nov. 2014. This was their reply:

We intend to release Series 4,5 and 6 on blu-ray.

Series 4 – 7 discs (will also be released in France in november)
Series 5 – 7 discs
Series 6 – 9 discs

That is our intention at the moment…

Brilliant news, avenger54! What e-mail address did you use? Maybe it would be a good idea to e-mail them about the previous DVD issues, such as the heavy-handed use of digital noise reduction and the lack of subtitles. If we all e-mail them we might get something done about it. Smile

I will be skipping the Lionsgate versions then. What is the best link for Series 4? Nothing up on Amazon UK?

So now that we know Series 4-6 will be issued on Blu-ray, am I safe and buying off of Amazon UK the Optimum Series sets for 2 and 3 on DVD or is there still the potential for problems with the discs. I am assuming they have all been fixed yes?

For one, there were no errors with the Series 3 UK DVD set, so that is definitely safe.

The Series 1+2 set must be OK by now too, but there is of course absolutely no guarantee. You could get unlucky.

I wish they would remaster the Cathy episodes and get rid of those flies that buzz around the screen...

It should be okay, they fixed them ages ago. If you want to be sure, buy from Cavalcade-of-DVDs on Amazon which is Canal's own online vendor.

Marissa_Cohnen@bhimpact.com is listed as the point of contact for the US release.

I added when I e-mailed her. "
"Looking at the press release of 1293 minutes / 3 = overs 7 hours of content per BD-50. Way too much content for any amount of quality. The most I have ever seen on a BD-50 is 4 - 4.5 hours of content for a BD-50. Keeps the bitrate around 20 mbps. It is especially disappointing that the UK and France have confirmed their release of season 4 and 5 will be 7 disc sets!"
