Does anyone know if there are plans to release the film episodes on Blu Ray?

I seem to remember that there was talk of a French edition but my memory may be playing tricks!

(and apologies if this has been discussed before!)

From the discussion a few months ago I think we were all feeling the same. That there is no bluray. For example, in the US they are re-releasing Emma Peel episodes but no discussions at all about ever releasing it in bluray. Frustrating since it would be so fantastic.

I understand that HD prints exist and indeed have been shown on TV somewhere (France I think).

As always this things boil down to cost - can they recoup the money and make a worthwhile profit. I am not sure the DVD sales were good enough to justify a rush to Blu Ray.

Don't hold your breath

A little birdie told me a few years ago that there couldn't be any Blu-ray's because of some technical mishap or something. Apparently they needed to redo all of the transfers from scratch? Sounds a bit odd to me, so maybe I got it completely wrong.

Very simple answer

Rigg b/w - NO
Rigg colour - possible if a company wanted to release them
Thorson - as Rigg colour

I can't divulge any more info but lets just say having done the DVDs I know all the technical issues

I said it on other threads, the negs have all been remastered in HD, with both 5.1 remixes and original mono mixes restored.

However to be financially feasible, ideally the seasons should come out on Blu in european and english territories at the same time. That's where the problem start, as german, spanish, french etc dubs are incomplete, cut or missing previously available pieces.

To coordinate all this, you need time. Which companies don't have.

However, they might come out in english only, in both US and UK. I don't expect the foreign dubs to be available in HD, ever.

Hint: the remasters only have come out in the UK on DVD so far.

Very old topic. News of HD masters and they are indeed HD were done from the OCN in 2008 at the latest. It hit many forums and even amazon.uk listed releases of the Avengers series shot on 35mm film for a bluray release. Then nothing happened. Releasing the series on dvd with the exception of the Cathy Gale episodes is sheer stupidity as bluray is far too affordable here in the US. The is barely any difference in price and the masters cetainly weren't redone in 576i.

In a nutshell the bluray releases were old news and they were remastered in HD for release in hddvd and bluray when the news 1st hit. Retailers were expecting bluray copies that never showed. The masters used on the current dvd's are more than acceptable for bluray. Hopefully we will see something soon. Who is releasing dvd versions of the Avengers in the US now?

Also the B&W 35mm episodes were shot on 35mm film and they were remastered in HD so yes they could easily be released on bluray.

Sorry Tim but it's not quite as simple as you think, especially on the b/w Rigg series.

Explain, there have been bluray releases of 35mm B&W films dating back prior to the 1920's. The 4th series of The Avengers was shot on 35mm film in agreement with the extra funding from the US where it aired as well. The Cathy Gale episodes shot the 405 line British standard used at the time will max out on dvd. The B&W Emma Peel episodes not even close. Actually to max out the resolution of 35mm film you need 4k. That's right bluray or HD can't capture all the resolution from 35mm film. The resolution is at least 3x greater than the resolution HD can offer.

I am not saying the remastered episodes were done in 4k. They were remastered in HD. So bluray will easily work. The B&W Peel episodes look just as stunning as the color episodes.

Also why was a bluray version of series 4 planned to be released? This was the first title.

Much speculation elsewhere that Series 4 will be released later this year with a release date of the 8th of November even being touted. I'll wait until we get more information from either Studio Canal or Jaz before getting too excited.

Rumor has it bluray release of season 4 coming in Sept. to France.

Kind of what I posted years ago. Milking the consumer to buy the dvd's and then releasing bluray verisons that fan will rebuy again. Hopefully the US gets a distributer. Hey $25 for series 5 is a steal but I can't stand apple stuff. Would love a bluray set of series 4-6 and 1-3 remastered on dvd.

Rumor is Sept. to Nov. for British release of season 4 bluray. Like I said years ago the masters were done in HD in 2009-10. Simply a matter of putting them on a disc.

Most likely region locked to UK? Will there be a US release of the series on blu ray?

It's a pity that region locking still exists. There's no reason for it at this point.
