Is there any place where we can access some of the tele-snaps for Series 1? (Beyond what's available watermarked on Rex Features).

Leonard White's scrapbook had loads of them (reproduced in the season 1 box set, in hard copy and I believe they're pdf in the later version/complete set); also many are shown along with audio/description in the reconstructions in the box set. There are also a handful on the episode pages on David K. Smith's site: http://www.theavengers.tv/forever/keel.htm Love the Dragonsfield ones!

Thank you. I was hoping for a more complete online resource, but those are helpful.

Putting them online runs into copyright difficulties, although John Cura of the Tele-Snaps service never really resolved who owned the copyright in the images - no company ever wanted to push it - but technically they'd all be Canal+ ownership.

Leonard White owns the copyright in the Tele-Snaps. They have been reproduced (bar one page of Toy Trap snaps which were omitted by accident) in the Series 1+2 UK DVD booklet and as a PDF in the Complete UK box set.

I'd just like to say a belated 'thank you' for a most wonderful book. It's extremely detailed and seems to be very well-researched, yet it's fun and easy to read. And big plus points for the tasteful design and lovely illustrations. For me, this is as good a book on the early Avengers that we will ever get. Definitely definitive!

What are the chances of having similar books for every series of the Avengers? Probably very slim, I guess, but I can always dream... Very Happy

With the take-up of this book being slow and not as good as hoped, I'd say about nil, sadly.

Richard and I are delighted to hear comments like yours - they really do make a difference - but the amount of time, energy and diligent research that goes into books like these has got to be met with a large and receptive audience for it to be possible to continue them. I'd love to be able to say that this has been the case, but it's been a tough sell.

Alan: can you (or anyone) recommend a book or series of books on British television from this period? I'm interested particularly in the early history of television in Britain. Thanks!

Dominic Sandbrook's four part history, covering the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s isn't specifically about TV. It covers everything from politics to popular culture. But it offers a definitive guide to the period and television.

They are intelligent, elegant and allow you to dip in and out wherever you like.

Bloody hell, I wasn't going to spend any more money on books this month and yet I sit here with the first book in the series, 'Never Had It So Good'. Seems excellent! Just flipped through it and happened upon a page on the Avengers. Very strange! Thanks for the recommendation, Rodney. Smile

Sorry to be off-topic, by the way. This is a thread for Alan's superb book! Embarassed

Alan, let's do our interview in the next couple of weeks. I will send you questions (at last). Thanks for your patience. I've busy teaching and working my novel and a non-fiction books about 1960s design and pop culture. Labors of love!

Have just ordered both this volume and The Strange Case of the Missing Episodes in hardback from Lulu; does anyone know how long they take to deliver? Looking forward to reading them!

Lulu are usually very quick, a couple of days should see it with you.

Many thanks for the order, Spaceship Dispatcher. Smile

Mike's basing his estimate on paperbacks, which are generally printed within one week and delivered within 3 days after that.

Hardcovers can take up to a month as they are printed overseas, so please do be patient.

Agggggggggggh

Sorry, yes my experience with Lulu is confined to paperback books, such as The Avengers and The New Avengers script books.

I have complained to Lulu about the recent delivery times on hardcovers as they used to arrive within 2 weeks, which was reasonable, but now take as much as double that time.

Needless to say, I didn't even get a reply!

Thanks for your patience. I'm sure you'll be happy with them when they arrive. They are so much more collectable than the paperbacks IMO.
