Well I received my copy from amazon uk today and it looks like an incredibly nice set; with just one small problem. WTF is wrong with distributers in the UK using such shoddy packaging. It came wrapped in a piece of cardboard with an extremely flimsy thin sub layer of cardboard that provides no structural support for the packaging of the disc. I have creases top and bottom on the slipcover and a crease down the side of the main digipack disc holder. Any weight that is put on this type of packaging goes directly to damaging the bluray boxset.
I recently had a similar situation with my Persuaders set from Network complete with entire rips through the top and bottom of the slipcase and creases galore throughout the set.
In the US nothing is packaged this cheaply and everything is sent in a box typically with padding of some kind to protect the contents. Sending something from overseas, this type of packaging is nothing short of ridiculous! I figured amazon UK would box it as they do in the U.S.
OK my fellow UK residents, how many items do you have to purchase to make sure the contents are shipped in a box? I keep thinking if I would have ordered a few more items at the same time it wouldn't have been shipped so shoddily. |

I'm going to order the German version soon. I hope they package it well.

That's one of my pet peeves with these releases. I did bring this up with Network on their FB page after the disappointing packaging for The Professionals - MK.I. I was told they had no plans to alter them. |

OK, I've just purchased the new UK blu ray set. Two questions; since I haven't purchased a blu ray player yet, and I reside in the USA, do I need a certain kind of player to play it? Next question: what extras, if any, are exclusive to this blu ray release? |

You'll need a region free blu-ray player. There are lots of them on the market. Here's an arbitrary one on Amazon:

Good grief... I put in a pre-order... I wonder if I'm going to regret this, but I doubt it'll be much cheaper than £49. Studio Canal releases are never on sale for some reason. |

I have the UK 50th anniversary DVD set and recently picked up the U.S. Season 5 blu Ray set. The season 5 U.S. Blu Ray has some audio issues in terms of the sound getting my very quiet then much louder. Do all seasons including the series 4 UK blu Ray set have this issue? |

The series 4 UK audio seems fine to me. Very happy with this set.
The only thing I've noticed, and this may not be a specific blu ray issue, is that some episodes seemto have the music on the opening titles slightly out of step with the imagery. No actual syncing problems with the episodes themselves though. |

The Optimum DVDs were quite an improvement, a magical experience to see the whole series in stunning quality but the Blurays are even more exceptional. I received the first set at the beginning of the month and I'll play the last disc sometime this week. It's not just the picture that looks crystal-clear but the sound as well, take a look at Dial a Deadly Number, the scene when Steed is invited for dinner. Just hearing the Laurie Johnson theme in the background makes me melt. This is absolute quality!
Verdict: Let's wait for the next set in June! _________________ I've been blessed by The Avengers! |

7 discs for 24 episodes, that does surprise me. I thought 6 would be fine at 4 episodes per disc. The series 4 set is exceptional. Episodes seem to run on average about 22 mbps which is a great bitrate for such quality masters. Comparing episodes on hulu and syncing the sound the streamed episodes look like dvd's and don't show near the detail as the series 4 set.
I really wish the American opening would have been restored in HD and available to play before the episodes. Even more I would have loved for The Strange Case of the Missing Corpse to be have been restored in HD as it is a great mini episode! |

The prints Hulu use are cut. I checked them. Alan I think it is (mastermind behind the 'Avengers Declassified' website) told me those cut copies got their HD version as well.
I tested 'girl from auntie' and some lines of dialogue are missing, shots included etc. _________________ I've been blessed by The Avengers! |

Worth mentioning that the episodes on Blu-ray are NOT cut. _________________ Alan

Fine for the American market, but not really appropriate for the UK and Europe, where those sequences were not included. My opinion is that the sequence is an interesting and fun novelty but for the European versions it has been placed where it belongs, as a bonus in the special features. _________________ Alan

The hulu prints seem to be about a minute shorter per episode. In a Touch of Brimstone the whipping scene was cut far shorter in the hulu version. |
