The producer of the film version of our beloved show has passed away at the age of 77.

I'm no fan of the film but Weintraub was a remarkable man. He came across very well in the interviews around the release of the film. Surprised he was just 77 as I expected him to be older.

I don't know how involved he was personally in the Weintraub company's purchasing and restoration (essentially, the rescue) of the Cathy Gale episodes, but I'm forever grateful when I see his name.

RIP.

shame that the film came out so badly..he was a fan of the series, so I expected him to see that a great job for the film was done...sadly, it was a huge misfire

Yes, it tends to be forgotten that Jerry Weintraub was a fan of the series and he carried the rights to make the film for over a decade. First with his own company, which went bankrupt and then to Warner Brothers, who he eventually persuaded to finance The Avengers as a film project.

It was a valiant try. He did at least prove that The Avengers could not be "reheated". Thankfully the originals will live forever.
