Well, after watching "The Charmers" again I can state that Malcolm Russell was definitely an Aussie! _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

On the other hand, I suspect Malcolm Russell didn't live until 112! Both are very common names so the chance of having two people with the same name confused is high. |
I indicated that while I am working on the topic of "long-livers", in parallel, I am conducting research for the peformers that the information seems suspicious to me. Apparently I expressed myself badly in English.
As for Malcolm Russell, it is mentioned in Nottingham Journal (26 July 1939) that he South Africa native.
Yes, I made a typo, I wanted to say 2002, not 2012. Otherwise, I have provided the information correct.
I suspect his full name is George Malcolm Russell. Married actress Wynne Sheradon in 1942.
This ausstage.edu.au datebase often assumes that some performers only have been in Australia. I have studied this many times. _________________ Denis |

Ah yes, I thought that maybe the details about Barbara Yu Ling are a by-product of your longevity research. She was great in The Prisoner and had time for fans, a lovely lady. It's extremely interesting finding out more about the actors especially when they are from places like Australia and South Africa which had a great input of personnel to ITV/ABC and BBC productions both in front of and behind the cameras. I believe trades union rules (at least for actors, and probably for production personnel) were less restrictive for the "former colonies" than for workers from the USA and other countries. _________________ Last watched: "The Medicine Men" |

There's no question about Malcolm Russell's accent, it's definitely Australian. Maybe he was born in South Africa and emigrated to Australia as a toddler or something, there's no trace of a Afrikaans accent. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

One interesting thing is that among the films that came out after his death, there is at least one, Mi vida dentro, that was filmed in 2005 (a year later). It looks like he was a producer at the preparatory stage of the project. _________________ Denis |

Joanne Dainton
Actress.
Played Miss Clarke in the Avengers episode The Positive Negative Man (1967).
Birthname: Joan Anne Dainton.
And now a surprise: I learned that Joanne born in Yorkshire, England (not Winnipeg, Canada according to various film and TV books). Yes, it is even stated in the Daily Mirror (although the newspaper is often mistaken) that she was born in Canada.
So, how did I get on the trail.
For many years I wondered why I couldn't find something about early years of Joanne in the Winnipeg, if she was supposedly born there. Today I found information in a newspaper that Joanne's father was British-born Rev. Archibald Stanley Dainton (1894-1975).
Archibald worked as a charter account's clerk and lived at 175 Belsize Road, Kilburn - in 1911 in Hampstead, Middlesex, England. In 1913 he immigrated from England to Canada. In 1921 he worked as a clergyman in Whitehead RM, Maniroba, Canada. On July 1, 1924 he married to Canadian-born Mary Ann Young (1896-1978) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. From 1925 to 1927 he was Reverend in a St. John’s Anglican Church (Reston, RM of Pipestone). He soon returned to England. From 1930 to 1936 he was Vicar of Holland Fen, Lincoln, and for other three years assistant to the Rector of Waddesdon, in Buckinghamshire.
Interesting note from Newspaper Bucks Herald (Friday 29 May 1936):
The Rev. A. S. Dainton, who is succeeding the Rev. H. W. Sonith assistant priest in this parish, now residence at the Rectory with Mrs. Dainton and their infant daughter.
Archibald Stanley Dainton (Family Tree):
https://www.geni.com/people/Archibald-Dainton/6000000052543206852
Daughter: Joan A Dainton (born in Yorkshire, United Kingdom in 1935). This is confirmed by official certificates (I checked through Ancestry).
Joanna spent her childhood in England and attended Abbey Junior School in Reading, Berkshire. Joanne told when her father, since 1939, was for seven years vicar of Littlewick, she used to travel to Reading daily.
So, Joanne (or Joan) is British-born person with British childhood, from British-born father!
Joanne married to Ian Bestford in 1983.

Terence Maidment
Stuntman and actor.
Participated as the actor and stuntman in some Avengers episodes.
For many, many years, nothing was known about Terence except for his film and TV works. Unexpectedly... today, I found the following information on the IMDb:

I started doing research based on this information and got on the trail of our Terence. We now know the following:

Born: 28 April 1932 in Battersea, London, England, UK
Married: Jeannie Barrett on 8 October 1977.
Lives in Black Mountain, South Carolina, USA.

Leon Lissek
Actor, who played Taxi Driver in the Avengers episode "The Forget-Me-Knot" (1968).
Just found out that Leon was born in 1939, not 1927. 12 years younger than thought all these years.
1) The first piece of evidence was on Ancestry, where in the recording of Heather Canning (Leon's deceased wife), I found the actor's birth year as 1939.
2) In Australian print media, his age is also indicated in agreement with the fact that he was born in 1939.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/262370502?searchTerm=%22leon%20lissek%22
3) Finally, his biography clearly fits into this framework.
Leon has been acting since his childhood, starting at the Kadimah, when it was in Drummond St., through his school-days at Princes Hill, and during his university year (he gave up the law course at Melbourne University about half-way through), when he was part of the Marlowe Society (late 1950s). He went to live in England in 1963.

Yes, the difficulty in determining his age may have been due to the fact that the actor came from Australia. I searched earlier for information about him and there was nothing about his bio - it seems that in the last year, newspapers were added to certain bases thanks to which managed to do research.
From the latest news about Leon, it is known that an interview with him was included in Limited Blu Ray Edition of Countess Dracula (1971), released on July 21st, 2021.
