Towards the end of the third (last) episode of Joanna Lumley's Japan, she briefly mentions her time on The New Avengers when she meets a karate expert.

She does indeed, but I thought when she said it that I couldn't ever remember her using that particular move in the show like she claimed she had. No doubt I'm incorrect though Smile

No I don't remember her specifically doing karate in the series. But they may have considered it before the series began and before they decided on her particular fighting style. So perhaps it formed part of the rigorous training regime, which she & Gareth Hunt both undertook. Just guessing -but she might have been referring to that.

Really enjoyed the Japan series-she has such a magnetic personality. I hope they do more, as all the ones she has done have been thoroughly enjoyable.

I've really enjoyed them all myself, with the exception of the Elvis Presley one. I found that contrived and rather sickly to be honest.

Yes, forgot about that, as I was thinking about the countries. Yes, that one and Will.I.AM were a bit out of step with the others. Elvis was obvioulsy a big hero, as he was to many of that generation but it did sort of veer a bit towards "Elvis is God" territory. The WILL.i.AM one made him out to be a modern-day genius! Oh dear, but again her personality did shine through.

He was, when I say 'contrived' I just got the feeling that she wasn't THAT big a fan of Elvis, and that it was all a bit of a show she put on purely for the sake of the programme Wink But she is indeed lovely.

I'm not sure if it was Karate or Judo (or indeed another kind of martial art altogether) but isn't there a lengthy scene in 'House of Cards' when Purdey is working with Spence before he tries to kill Gambit? Maybe that's the training she needed?

yes definitely was an elaborate karate scene with Lumley in the show.

This was a great series. Really interesting. Joanna is wonderfully eccentric, a real character, and always great company. The ideal presenter for this type of documentary. I hope she does loads more in the future! Smile Rich.
