As my next major project I'm going to be bringing this poor fella back to life. He's beautiful, such a cool piece of 60's Sci Fi Wink

I've just started building'George Oblique Stroke XR40' I intend to construct it out of high impact plastic sheeting and 3mm MDF panels, reinforced from the inside with fibre glass and then painted to look like metal. That way it'll be strong yet light weight.

The vintage black and white toggle switches seen on George's face plate

Although I'll be using modern day orange, blue, red and pink led's instead of old style 1960's bulbs.

Thanks Darren, I've always had a soft spot for poor old George, ever since I heard, or should I say saw, his cry for help as a kid ! I'm determined that George Oblique Stroke XR40 will compute again Wink

A fantastic sunny and warm spring day here today so I got lots done. All the internal fibre glassing, sealing and smoothing of the units outer seams, an undercoat of paint, and the trim.

I'm just wondering how tall he is. You don't get to see him standing, well only for a few brief seconds and there is nothing at that point to gauge his height against.

I have searched everywhere trying to locate four tiny lamps to match the originals on the face plate, but looking for something like that from the 1960's over 50 years later is tough going. I can't even find something similar that's the right size. So needs must. I turned to the teats from a baby feeding bottle and a chrome washer.

Ian

I hope you're assembling George in full gown and mask, in a sterile enviroment just like the actual episode.

Nope, I've been wearing a tight black bodysuit, emerald green boa and cat mask, it's a lot more comfortable, not to mention more fun Cool

This has been so enjoyable to make that I'm thinking about REMAK next Laughing

Yay, the top is all but complete, just the arched chrome handle piece to fit between the spools now.
