Children's television presenter, actor and musician Rick Jones has died the age of 84. He appeared as Ricky in the Avengers episode The Little Wonders (1964).

Twitter's message:

This is Valerie, Rick's wife. He particularly asked me to make sure that his Twitter friends were informed about his illness and his passing. His esophageal cancer metastasized and spread quickly. He died at home in my arms with his daughters close by. My heart is breaking.

Rick and Valerie.

Valerie again. We were working on a cd project in the months before his death, and it was finished the day before he died. Very special, very beautiful. A very very special man.

Rick began his career as a co-presenter of the popular Play School show which aired daily for pre-school age kids. Jones often played the guitar and sang on the programme.

In 1972, he started hosting Fingerbobs, in which he created characters from finger puppets made of paper. He then went on to forge a career as a musician, fronting the British country rock band Meal Ticket.

Rick Jones and Julie Stevens (Venus from The Avengers).

RIP, Rick.

Good musician (guitar and keyboards) playing mostly folk music. I just listened to his 2008 album, which he recorded with his wife. Vocal manners are interesting in places.

From that album I liked the Amargosa track the most (immediately reminded me of Simon & Garfunkel).

It will be interesting to listen to the last album that Valerie tweeted about.
