I've found that the Swiss counterpart to the TV Times, Radio TV je vois tout lists Game on 10 June and They Keep on 17 June, so I'll go with that...

I might even replace all my Swiss listings with clips from that publication now...

Ugh, and now I think they did swap the episodes, or some regions missed out on "They Keep Killing Steed" altogether... what a nightmare.

A nightmare for Swiss viewers too, possibly missing out on one of the best episodes!

TV channel scheduler pick the episode broadcast order of foreign tv shows before the internet and people could check the original:

Excuse the joke, but it was really common to bungle up the correct order or just drop entire episodes for no apparent reason.

Yes, it does make you wonder about TV channel schedulers. They are never popular with programme makers. The worst was the failure to network The New Avengers in Britain which led to its demise due to perceived lack of audience loyalty. But even the order of the 1960s series is baffling, it's all over the place. The transmission orders have no logic whatsoever. They even butchered Warlock to make it other than Cathy's introduction story.

good points about programmers...and the new avengers...but also keep in mind, the ultimate demise of the series, was caused by insufficient funding ..they were constantly running out of money, to fund the series.

Quite right, shooting on film cost them an absolute fortune, but they did make it back at first as it helped them sell it to "more than 90 countries", as I just read in a Swiss newspaper. The problems came later on when their budgets got squeezed because of the debacle of the beginning of series 6.

Speaking of newspaper though, I have NOW decided that some newspapers, no doubt being run by the Murdochs and not caring too much about accuracy, just got it wrong:

Most of these papers are from Lausanne or Vallais and would have had the same programmes shown, and the same mistakes happen - "Keep" in the listing with a summary for "Game"; "Clues" & "Getway" mixed around...
I KNOW "Getaway!" was shown on 6 May 1969 because there's a nice review of it on 7 May in "Tribune de Lausanne - Le Matin". Apologies for the formatting of the below...

un : unnamed episode; xx : I didn't keep it, so unnamed..
There was a series on Swiss personalities and two episodes covered Max Schifferli and Peter Schifferli. La Liberté has the odd situation of the summary for Game and for the Max Schifferli episode, but the listing alongside it has an unnamed episode and the Peter Schifferli episode.

A new update today!

Let me show you the world in my eyes
8 September 2022
Still more press clippings! This time they're for - you guessed it, Series 6 collected from forty-four different newspapers around the world. I'm going to complete the set for that hot summer of '76 and then turn my gaze upon the Far East to see what their newspapers hold... and then it'll be back to rewriting series 3!

Yeah, I worked out a more efficient process and file naming scheme which has sped things up enormously.
After the messy development of the clippings for series 4, I collated all the clippings up to TNA in an episode number order and I have an HTML template that I fill in and adapt as I go.
I've also retro-fitted changes such as identifying the country in the captions, and removing the redundant " The Avengers at" bits.

Working on my next update, I just noticed that nine episodes of TNA were first broadcast in the Netherlands!
(seven episodes from series 1, and two from series 2)

Part of the reason is they had a different running order, I just had to double-check the archives in case I had made a late-night mistake.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_online_newspaper_archives#Netherlands

Delpher is really easy to use, but I used a few others such as https://krantenbankzeeland.nl/ as well.

Good point, I wonder what languages the Swiss broadcasts used, since Switzerland has three or four official languages?

It *is* a good question. The French forums had a lengthy debate about how bad the redubs were compared to the Sixties French voiceovers but with such a compressed timeline in 1976 I can't imagine The New Avengers were dubbed at all. (Please correct me, Francophones!)

Allard had previously stated that most imported shows in the Netherlands are subtitled, only documentaries and children's shows get Dutch language soundtracks, if I remember correctly.

Going by the Swiss TV listings, Suisse Romande showed French language episodes, Schweiz Deutsch showed Germany language episodes, and Svizzera Italiana showed Italian (probably just subtitled for The Avengers? I'm not sure).
I've pretty much only shown Suisse Romande as it was always the first, although with Italy not picking up series 5, I have TVSI for those.

You are correct about The Netherlands, except for the documentaries part.

Switzerland's public channels are monolingual and each language has it's own channel. So it is a matter of researching it per channel.
German speaking Switzerland seems to be watching a lot of channels from Germany, but whether this was the case in the 60s/70s, I do not know.

thanks for getting some light , in those dark corners...interesting what you stated about each language, having it's own channel...wondering if this happen in other countries as well ? still, that is impressive

Thanks Allard, that concurs with my research. And thanks for clarifying that documentaries don't get Dutch dubs.

I ended up listing just Suisse Romande except for series 5 because I was doing a début of each episode by country, and the French language episodes were always before the German or Italian ones.
In fact, I only list TV Svizzera Italia because it was the only way Italians saw series 5, as RAI had dropped the show.

Swiss newspapers in the Sixties frequently list channels from France and Germany - TF1/chaine 1, TF2/chaine 2, Allemande I & Allemande II (or Deutsch I .. if a German language newspaper).

Dutch newspapers do the same, listing German and sometimes Belgian channels. The only useful German newspaper I found was Hamburg Abendblatt and it doesn't list non-German channels but border regions would undoubtedly have tuned in, allowing some Germans to see "The Eagle's Nest" which was of course not shown in Germany due to the ban on displaying Nazi imagery.
If only the USA had that for public display, we might not be in the mess we are today! First Amendment be damned, Nazis are scum.

yeah, Germany had that 'law' or 'ban' for years, not allowing Nazi imagery in culture, film, etc...including Lp's covers, music, etc....not sure that notion / law is around in 2022....i remember reading a story about a german citizen was arrested by officials ..as the trained his german shepard to sit up and extend the right paw..in a doggy salute...when the owner cried out, 'do the adolf'..

but censorship has always been a slippery slope...
