I finished a new photo story.
In the "New Avengers" episode "Obsession" Steed says to Purdey: "Because of Berlin. It was the first time I went over the Wall. I picked up a three bullets and a fractured tigh."
2011 was not only the 50th anniversary of "The Avengers", but of the Berlin Wall's building too, and so I did a new story.
Poor John Steed has to suffer a lot...
Here it is:

Thanks ischtar for sharing!
Ah well, some Fanfiction stories about The Avengers.
Before I joint our nice forum here, I had no idea, that there also still some Fanfiction stories.
Now I must say, If there are fans, there are still some Fanfiction stories, too!
My English really isn't the very best, as you can see, so, I only could write stories in my native language, but the problem here is, the universal language is English and most of the fans are from the UK or the USA.
So it would be a problem for them, and all the others, who don't speak my language, too, to understand the story.
Okay, lets read and enjoy them!
Sincerely yours,
Sinus1994 |

FanFiction.net has finally implemented cover images for stories (kind of like the old FanLib site). This leads to all the goofy photoshopping like below. In defense of the horse with a bowler, it *is* actually the horse Diana Rigg is riding in those many photos. Also, something very Magritte about the thing...
Anyone who survived reading my Emma oeuvre may recognize the title blocks, assuming their sanity is still intact . On the down side, the images are only displayed in a very small size (80,100, or 120 pixels high), rather than the 200 pixels allowed by FanLib. Heck, the *avatars* are allowed to be bigger than the story cover images... |

I wouldn't go that far. Only the last 9 stories contain Emma; the first 7 stories are the transition from Cathy to Emma, and it can actually cause physical pain to read some of those. I think I only keep them online as a personal penance... |

You are far to hard on yourself Bitshifter! Every one of your stories is fun and engaging. The transition stories with Rita Fox are quite Avengeresque. I recommend Bitshifters stories to one and all

Nonsense--you did a brilliant job with Rita Fox. She so easily could have turned into a classic Mary-Sue, but she felt like a full-blown Avengers girl, with her own quirks and personality. I remember being a little sad when she moved on to make room for Emma. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

Your own stories could make good use of the cover images, since you do pairings so well. You could use a small set of standard images for each pairing (Purdey/Gambit, Steed/Emma); the interface allows you to use the same picture for more than one story. I'd particularly like to see a photoshop of Linda Thorson and Peter Wyngarde as "The Two Kings" for your latest... |

Oh, thank you, Bit! It wasn't until you mentioned the whole "cover" option on ff.net that I realised that the pictures weren't confined to your avatar, actually. As it stands, my avatar over there actually fits pretty well already, since most of my stuff is Purdey/Gambit. I'm not the world's best (or most patient ) image editor, so I'd have to make a concerted effort to go fiddling and put things together. I've never used Photoshop, but I've been pondering downloading a trial one of these days and trying a couple of tutorials. If I can work it out, who knows, something may appear...
But I don't need Photoshop for Peter and Linda joy when wonderful things like this already exist:
Perhaps I should sub that in for a cover? I've had it one my harddrive for an age, and it was part of my impetus to write the story. I hope you enjoyed it. As you may be able to tell, I have a soft spot for Jason. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

That would have been a perfect picture for fanlib.com, which allowed square cover images; you would only need to crop around the faces. But ff.net has gone with this tall 2x3 rectangle shape (I use images cropped to 133x200, 200x300, or 300x450). Presumably this is to have a shape like a "book cover", and maybe makes the page of thumbnails more efficient.
But consider this: probably 80% of all fan fiction is "pair-based". You know, everyone wants to ship their two favorite characters (Emma+Gambit, anyone? ). So ideally, the cover image needs to have 2 people in it (like Linda and Peter), and that's a very difficult thing to do with the tall rectangular shape. You either get only the briefest of facial profiles, or have to use a lot of empty space at the top and bottom to meet the aspect ratio.
It's best if the faces are at slightly different levels, so they can be closer together, like your square avatar of Purdey and Gambit. It crops so perfectly for your covers! |

I can't remember where I found it on the 'net, but I love it. I've often wondered when it was taken--I always figured sometime in the early '70s, maybe around the time of Jason King. They shot Department S at the same time as Randall and Hopkirk, and I know Linda's dressing room was next door to Kenneth Cope's until the Avengers finished (she gave him her tea kettle), so it's almost a given that Linda would have run into Peter at some point--they must have known each other, if only casually. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at Elstree in the sixties... _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

It's a very strange picture shape, I agree--they look more like the spines of books than covers to me. I can see them wanting to keep the image size down for the sake of space/bandwidth, but to choose that shape is very odd. And as you say, most stories feature a pair of characters, so getting both in there is tough. I can't believe how well the site crops my avatar, either--I don't think I could make something that worked any better! Thank goodness for Gareth and Joanna's height difference. It was made for me, and I'm quite fond of it, so I think I'll leave it as default for most things.
(And please don't tempt me with Emma/Gambit. Everytime I write them in the same story, they click a little too well, darn it. ) _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

Ah, the truth comes out. Thank you--I find Emma very difficult to write, let alone in an unfamiliar dynamic with a character she never met onscreen, so if it worked, that's a huge compliment.
If you liked that, I have plotted out a story that leans quite heavily on the Emma/Gambit dynamic. I just have to write it, and I haven't been writing much lately. I need to prod myself into gear. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?
