Do you mean that you saw a 6min version of it on Youtube ?
What did you write 'cause I just watched it yesterday and it was still the 3min. version.

By the way, I think that the original version begins with Steed and Emma who say 'Hello' to the American audience.
(Anecdote quoted from THE ULTIMATE AVENGERS).

Is there someone here who saw it on TV in 1966 and is it possible to try to remember what the beginning of this mini-episode was ?

It was all done for American audiences. The UK didn't get colour until after The Avengers has ceased production.

I was talking to Brian Clemens about this only a week or two ago and he is adamant that there was NEVER a 10 minute version. He maintains it was always 3 minutes and said a 10 minute version would have never worked for what the purpose of the promo was.

I do know of a private collector who has a print of Strange Case but he doesn't know how long it is and won't allow me access to it without a large amount of money changing hands. I can't afford it and I'm not being held to ransom over it.

What Clemens says makes sense, maybe it was actually recorded in 10 minutes and that is the raw footage? Or with seven minutes of excerpts from episodes could also be an explanation.

Perhaps Venus came on and performed a couple of Jazz songs with the Dave Lee Trio? Cool

Or one with Dave Lee and one with Kenny Powell. Just to spread it around a little. Wink

That's not strictly true. Colour broadcasts began in the UK in 1967 on BBC2. ITV and BBC1 did not start colour broadcasts until 1969. All TV production was converted to colour by January 1970 in Britain. I think I'm right in saying that the Tara episodes were shown in colour on ITV. The Peel colour episodes were repeated 1970 or 1971 which was their first colour airing.

I should have said ITV, not British television. ITV's colour service began after The Avengers had finished, as did BBC1.

In any case the little 'Strange Case' film was made in 1966, so strictly for the US.

As for the longer version - there's a script in one of The Ultimate Avengers that states longer version was made - described as a preamble to 'Strange Case', with Pat and Diana, out of character, introducing themselves and telling America to tune in at 10pm on Friday nights.

It started airing in the States with season 4 (black and white), but The Strange Case of the Missing Corpse was made to advertise that the series would be coming back in colour the following season.
