A couple of sites you might be intersted in:

Keith Towers has already contributed a nice shot of the backlot village to The Avengerland studio guide taken around the time of 'Killer', but here is another from his album at this site, also from 'Killer':

I also came across this photo of the Teddington control room taken around the time THE AVENGERS was being shot there:

I'm sure it's the place where the crew heard about Kennedy's death, during the recording of an episode and also the place with the television screens which showed what was going on, on the other channels.

I just went to the Elstree link this morning and it worked perfectly.
Perhaps it's just a problem with your connection or something... Confused

Thanks, Anthony! The Elstree link is fascinating--there are some interviews with Ray Austin and Alexandra Bastedo in there as well.

Interestingly, TNA is listed as one of the series filmed there in the seventies, although it actually made its home at Pinewood. I'm thinking now that I remember reading that TNA shot a little bit at Elstree, but does anyone know for certain? Clemens and co. wanted Elstree, I know that much, but it got bumped out by James Bond (and then, of course, Bond ended up switching to Pinewood as well).

Aitch is Harry Fielder, but who's Daft Ada? I can access the site but it's so s-l-o-w ... Sad

The interviews are interesting - obviously done by post/email - particularly the Suzanne Lloyd one. And Valerie Leon (my choice for an Avenger girl when I was a kid) is a delight.

David Prowse, who was Darth Vader's body (James Earl Jones provided the voice--apparently they didn't want a Cockney Darth Laughing ). He's also in the Hitchhiker's TV series as the bodyguard for the fellow spending a year dead for tax reasons. Wink

always thought that was so strange...JE-Jones, the 'voice' of Lord Vader..

Very classy actor, with a rich voice...John Houseman, was another actor
who had a great voice, as did Orson WELLES..

but Prowse was chosen, due to his sheer size ?

All I know is what I've read--it said he was Cockney. I've never really heard him talk.

I've read elsewhere that part of the reason that George Lucas got James Earl Jones in to do the voice was to squeeze in a black cast member (this was before Lando). Don't know if there's any truth to that, but either way they certainly couldn't go wrong with that voice. He's well known to people my age as Mufasa's voice actor in The Lion King.

He didn't even get to use his own voice when he was Britain's favourite super hero!

And now a clip with his real voice and Bristol accent:

Yep - he was a famous bodybuilder and actor - appeared in Hicthhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Doctor Who (and the road-safety "Green Cross Code Man" adverts); it was Prowse who personally-trained/body-built Shristopher Reeve for Superman.

Earl Jones just didn't have the physical presence for the role on screen. It needed someone powerfully-built. Plus, most of the supporting cast (everone except Luke/Leia/Han) was British, since the film was made in Britain. Not sure they could have afforded to fly him over!

Just for the sake of his colour? That'd be a bit mad, especially as Darth Vader was an evil villain, so any perceived gain for "political correctness" would be offset by the huge racism of having the main nasty be black!

I believe that Dave would describe himself as a 'physical actor' to distinguish himself from stunt men (he didn't do stunts). As his Star Wars films have proved, he did what he did very well and gained a great deal of respect for it.

That's hilarious! Doesn't quite strike the fear of God into you, does it? Laughing

I don't know how much truth there is to the other reason for Jones' casting--just something I read. He was definitely the right voice actor for the part, though.

Just found this and loved it. Emma keeps a cool head at all times, even in winepresses:

All right, it's a behind-the-scenes shot of Diana smoking in the winepress from A Surfeit of H2O. (You know you're an addict when...)

I love that someone's provided her with a nice pillow to rest her head on while she lies there. If only the Diabolical Masterminds were so considerate. Wink
