Forgive the question as this may have been discussed elsewhere. But does anyone know how the transition from Dr. Keel to Dr. Gale occurred on screen? I guess when Ian did his last show no one was aware he wasn't coming back. I hope i have my facts right so please correct me if that is not correct.
In any case no one here probably saw or remembers this transition. Actually is there anyone on this site that was around at the time to have seen any of the Keel episodes?
I just wondered how they explain Keel's disappearance. I have not had the chance to see the beginning Dr. Gale episodes yet but wonder how the audience back then felt about the change initially. In retrospect we know it worked well in the end but wonder how that transition went for the audience losing the main character so abruptly?

There was no transition at all. Dr Keel simply wasn't in the series anymore. Tara King was the only character who was ever 'introduced' to Steed or to the audience. Dr King, Mrs Gale, Mrs Peel, Mother, Gambit, Purdey, they all were just "there" and Steed knew them all well. Additionally, I don't think there was any mention of where Dr Keel had gone. At least Mrs Gale and Mrs Peel were seen to leave the series.

Cathy didn't follow Dr Keel anyway, Martin was in between Keel and Cathy & Venus.
Interestingly, there was a scene to introduce Cathy to viewers, but it was in "Warlock", so when Warlock was moved down the schedule, they refilmed a couple scenes with an amended script as she didn't need to be introduced anymore.

Warlock script changes

In the production sense King came before Gale but in transmission they started with Mr. Teddy Bear.

So it was a case of one season ended with Dr. Keel (and not even that, it finished with the Steed only Dragonsfield) and the next started with Mrs. Gale.

Venus appeared in the third episode and King appeared in the fifth.

I changed the IA of my website to make the URIs more meaningful, so the old 218script.html location no longer exists; it's not broken, just changed.
