While looking through this site, I ran into this clip from a documentary about The Avengers titled Without Walls. I, being in America, have never seen it before and was thrilled by it! It's from Purrr: Wrekkers The Avengers website. It's from 1992.

It's Avenging The Avengers which is on the bonus disc of the Emma Peel Box Set. It's a good documentary. All the cast and a lot of the crew took part apart from Diana Rigg (they had to find some older footage of her in order for her to be included).

I thought Avenging the Avengers was a different one. I think I remember seeing it on Youtube and it was a different set of interviews than the one I referenced. I'll have to look for that other one and watch it again.

It's the same programme, just with the Leonard White interview footage removed (at his request, as he felt he was misrepresented) and omitting the Without Walls title sequence (which featured an armadillo, if memory serves!).

There were two in one year a little while back, The Avengers Revisited and The Avengers: Must-See TV. Along with Avenging the Avengers, I think those were the only three exclusively dedicated to the series.

There were bits from Pat's contribution on YouTube but that's all. What state of completion was it in?

Without Walls was a documentary strand covering a wide variety of subjects, one of which was The Avengers. The armadillo was the 'mascot' of the Without Walls strand, you could say...

I have no idea. The website for it's still around, but there's no actual information. The same old clips are there, though:

Ah, yes, I have seen these clips before of Patrick from that Way Back production but I had no clue if it was intended as part of a bigger picture or what. THere was no explanation for it. Like you said, just these 3 clips. So does anyone know what ever happened to this?

Sorry correction THE AVENGERS: The Journey Back

I get the impression that it is a finished work - they were just waiting for the rights from Canal Plus to release the project as well as to include clips from the series - that's when everything froze. There is even an entry in IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1350478/!

There was some filming at some Avengers locations in the UK that I know about.

I doubt that any of the problems they may have had with Canal+ were insurmountable. After all, other documentaries have been made in recent years which include clips, and these documentaries have sometimes been produced by non-licence holders (i.e. ITV).

If the programme is finished and fully edited, I'll eat my hat.

I think that Clyde Lucas was wanting to sell 'The Journney Back' directly to the public (on Video originally). You can tell by his web site that he has got very limited funds and big ideas.

http://www.clydelucas.com/

His old Wikipedia entry used to say:

"In 1994, Lucas produced and directed the documentary The Avengers: The Journey Back, hosted by Patrick Macnee with Honor Blackman, Dame Diana Rigg, Linda Thorson and Simon Oakes."

He recorded the interviews, got Pat to do linking material and did some location filming, but if he wanted to fill the production with clips to pad it out, I can well imagine that ecconomic reality and Canal Plus wanting some control over their property brought the whole thing to a halt.
