Old sad news at a forum of a series "Sweeney".

The relative by name of Cliff Diggins writes:

That's a great picture of my uncle!

Cliff also had a variety of stunt roles roles in The Persuaders, The Saint, The Prisoner, The Avengers and other serials of that era. He also doubled Roger Moore in some of the Bond films. His most important stunt work was doubling for George Harrison in Help! filmed in the Carribean. He had cameo appearances in a few films including films such as Where's Jack. Other stunt work also included The Moonspinners (boat hitting rock stunt) and The Last Run (driving scenes in Spain).

He was an avid horseman and did some work with other stuntmen putting on Medieval jousting competitons (Bristol for one), later doing the same for Disney.

I managed to go on the set of a couple of stunt shoots with him. One in Islington where he crashed a motorbike through a shop entrance ("Shout at The Devil), and another where he drove a motorbike off an M3 bridge into the Thames (can't remember the film or series). That was towards the end of his career and that stunt did break a few ribs.

He could AND always did drive the wheels of of everything. He started as a male model with a pseudo name Clifford French.

He did indeed hang out with Terry, Rocky and Romo. I met all of these "fine" gentlemen javascript:emoticon('') And the stunt work that these guys did on sets often spilled over into real life. All larger than life characters when your a young impressionable lad.

Thanks for the memories. He was indeed a special uncle for me. He died at Christmas 2 yrs ago. I think he was 72.
