Lie the box flat on a solid surface, and open to the page you want.

Hold the 'page' containing the DVD at a right angle to the boxset, and push down gently. This will slightly compress the page, making the disc pockets loosen.

Thanks for that. Well I managed to get the discs out but I'm wondering whether the season 3 discs are faulty, I've tried several in my DVD drive and on each one, the picture of the Studio Canal logo dominates the screen, even when you get to the episode menu. You hear the sound clips on the menu screen but most of the images are covered by a black image saying 'Studio Canal'. Weird!!
The other season discs in the complete box set appear to play all right it's just season 3 where the logo image gets stuck ! Anyonr else had this problem?

Maybe some sort of test disc? If optimum aren't liable to respond just take it or send it back to where you got it from for exchange.

Well after contacting Studio Canal, I sent back my faulty Season 3 discs to them at the end of last week. Today, I received a package from them in the post. Unfortunately, these discs appear to have the same problem -looks like I'll be contacting them again tomorrow about getting corrected discs !!!

And I had just placed an order for the complete boxset which, having read your comments on series 3, I've now cancelled.

I wonder because the set sold out that this new batch contains a faulty series 3.

Soo much trouble these Optimum discs have caused.

My discs all work fine in the DVD player but I've only tested 1 & 2 in a PC drive (but I've watched parts of all of them in the past).

Was it in a DVD player or a PC DVD drive? Which brand/model?

Argh!

Optimum/Canal have been so unlucky with these. I wonder if they employed a "cheap" authoring house.

It's so galling after Alan and Jaz (and a few others) put in so much effort making sure the content was so good.

Though in future decades it will be remembered that a fine show was shown sufficient attention - at least in the pre-authoring stage; the rarity of properly-working disks might make them even more valued!

I thought season 3 was the only set that was unaffected by faults. Shocked Confused
I'm still on season 2, so haven't got to season 3 yet. I've played and skipped through several season 3 episodes, but I can't find anything wrong yet. Does anyone know what faults I should be looking out for with season 3? Season 2 looks terrific by the way! Smile Rich.

Sorry, I should have posted an update earlier. It turned out that there was some technical glitch with my PC DVD drive (which was my only DVD player at the time!) . I discovered the series 3 discs played fine in other players. It's strange because my PC played other discs fine just had a problem with series 3 but the problem was with my PC, not the series 3 discs!!

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I hope I'm not opening up a can of worms but I have just received a copy of the complete box set (I had already purchased the individual sets but the completist in me wouldn't allow me to not save up and get the box set!) and the set looks lovely and I don't even have an issue with getting the discs out - however.....I have just tested to see if the issue on Legacy of Death had been sorted and although the picture no longer "flashes" it does seem to be an awful lot darker than previous, especially at the beginning, and it does somehow seem to have been inflicted with the sound speed up problems affecting Season 5 and The Forget-Me-Knot. Has anyone else noticed this?

(I have made a comparison using clips from both sets however we can't post videos on here can we?)

I think you have to post a link as opposed to the actual video on here, not because of the TOS, but because they simply won't work. If you can find a way to make it work on here, feel free to post, but please remember to post only short clips so that we don't have any issues of copyright laws being broken.

Thanks Kim, that was my concern.

I have uploaded a short clip should anyone wish to have a look, comparing the clips the difference is quite noticeable.

Thank gawd I kept the Contender version.

Although the picture-flicker on the original Optimum/Canal release is annoying, it's far less annoying than the chipmunk voices.

Has "The Forget-Me-Knot" replacement still got the chipmunk voice problem? Presumably that's fixed otherwise there'd be no change from the returned disk.

It's just like the Dr. Who and the Daleks DVD all over again. That was Studio Canal, they issued a replacement and teh replacement had a fault which necessitated another replacement.

Large groan!

Yep the Forget-Me-Knot looks and sounds fabulous now!

It is hugely frustrating, especially as this doesn't seem to have been picked up so presumably no replacement for the replacement (if you follow me!) will be issued! I now have one version which flickers, and one that I can't bear to listen to (and although the flicker seems to have been remedied the picture at the beginnning & end seems incredibly darkened (the first 10 mins or so, and last 10mins - which is exactly how the flicker affected the first disc in the beginning!)

I have been hugely supportive of these releases and on the whole they are amazing but these issues have just become laughable. Do I even bother to attempt to get a replacement?

On the plus side the set looks fabulous!

I bought the individual sets so I don't know about the problems with the complete box set. I have the V3 version of series 5, which I'm sure is ok. (I'm still watching series 3 so haven't got there yet.) Re the Tara box set I did ask Canal for 2 replacements, and I now have the V2 versions of Forget me knot and Legacy. Not sure if they're perfect, as I only watched a few seconds of both, but they seemed ok. Is everyone else happy with their corrected discs Question Rich.

I've got the Complete set now - in the Diana colour comic strip reproduction booklet, which reprints one adventure, it mentions that it is intended to release a full reprint of the Diana "Avengers" comic strips in 2011.

Has this happened, was it deferred, or cancelled?

Oh yeah, and my set (from Amazon) had a small blob of extremely tenacious glue or something (from the "box"?) on the playing surface of the Special Features disk. I haven't checked the others yet, but as this was the first of 39 disks I checked, it doesn't bode well.
