I don't see any difference between the one and the other, accept that the one has a bit lighter colours than the other. But does that mean the quality is worse or better when it comes to eg resolution?
And I wouldn't mind for French subtitles, although I prefer Dutch subtitles. French dubbing, however, would be awful. But with French subtitles and original English audio, I and my parents could both watch it. _________________ Prrr......

It would be interesting to know the sales of The Persuaders Blu-ray recently released. I think restoration of a New Avengers set could look the most spectacular of all.
I think with Joanna Lumley's profile it would sell really well too. I don't know why Optimum/StudioCanal haven't released a New Avengers set. _________________

Ah the thought of the New Avengers properly restored makes me dribble.
Those episodes would look stunning. There's a few episodes that I watch and admire the visuals and think what would that look like all cleaned up and fresh...
Hopefully one day it will stop being a dream. |

I'm sure it will happen. And you know Joanna would be happy to promote it to the hilt. She's always been a wonderful ambassador for the show. _________________

The last TNA release with the Gareth/Clemens commentaries was an Optimum release, but it wasn't cleaned up. It'd be lovely if Joanna did a commentary the next time around. Would have been even lovelier to have a Gareth/Joanna commentary, but that's impossible now. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

After buying all 5 of The Avengers remastered box sets and being very impressed ( I waited for the corrected ones!), I would now love to see TNA remastered. Can I ask, what is the picture quality like on the existing box set? I imagine I'd be better off waiting until it has been restored. What can we fans do to persuade Canal to remaster it? Maybe if we all email them en masse! Rich. |

Very interesting! I haven't watched TNA in awhile, but these do look brighter than I remember. I dearly wish we would get a proper, restored TNA set, with a full set of extras. Let's hope someone will follow your lead. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

I have the A&E US Region 1 DVD sets of The New Avengers. They are ok in terms of sound and picture.
I would be interested in a remastered DVD or blu ray set for sure. |

Same as the Professionals. These need to be redone in HD. Full frame scanning will allow to produced 16/9 friendly versions |

As my interest in The New Avengers is pretty much level with it's mother show (sometimes even more depending on my mood) a Blu Ray release might be the push I need to finally get a player. _________________

Yes, and if Ms. Lumley would come to the US to promote it as well, that would suit me fine. Love the lady even more than the show itself. For me she was far and away the best thing about The New Avengers. |

And of course it would look infinitely better if the source was a negative rather than (I assume) a DVD containing a questionable print transfer. _________________ Alan

Dunno but It looks better. It would make me want to buy the set again. _________________

peelfan did the 'restoration', see the post above.
It seems to be a grain removal and upscaling rather than true HD, but it's very good; you would need to source the original masters to do a true HD.
Having said that, it's widely believed that Canal's remastering of the DVD of the original series was HD, they just haven't released an HD version ... yet.
I hope they re-remaster series 3 for a Bluray release though, and get rid of those flies that buzz about the screen! _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

I finally ordered the 50th Anniversary complete set. I was also thinking of importing the UK TNA set to replace me US versions. The US Versions are out of print as well.
Any news of a new release in the works?
I'm a bit surprised that blu ray versions of the shows have not been issued by now.
I saw The Persuaders is out on blu ray in the UK. Wasn't Network also prepping The Saint for blu ray? |
