It never fails to surprise me what you can find on the web.

I was poking around Google Images, and stumbled on this absolutely gorgeous shot of Gareth and Joanna taken for a brochure advertising Annabel Jones Jewellery (Annabel Jones being the mother of Samantha Cameron, apparently). According to the photographer, it was taken in 1978, which puts it not long after the end of TNA, which makes sense given the length of Joanna's hair, which looks pretty similar to the grown out Purdey bob she was wearing at the end of season 2.

It's great because it not only reunites Gareth and Joanna, but is also pretty clearly trying to call to mind Purdey and Gambit, rather than Gareth and Joanna themselves. The caption (which I've discerned after a lot of careful squinting Wink ) reads: "Strongi'th'arm, as Purdey would know, is a puritan name. But that isn't necessarily the name of the game." I'm still trying to work out whether the captionwriter is making a sly reference to Purdey's exchange with Cromwell in To Catch a Rat, or if it's pure coincidence. (I've also come to the conclusion that people were slacker about things like copyright back in the day, because I have a sneaking suspicion no one went and cleared the use of "Purdey" for this particular campaign. I sincerely doubt you'd get away with it now).

Not only is it lovely to see Gareth and Joanna together post-TNA (and from the sounds of things, they hung around together pretty regularly, right up until Gareth died in 2007), but they also look healthy and refreshed compared to the end of the season 2, when the strain of the overseas filming and not getting paid regularly set in, and they both started looking a bit too thin and hadn't slept properly since 1975. I sincerely hope they got paid better for this than they did for doing the actual series!

So lovely to see all the way around, and my new favourite picture of the pair of them. I thought I'd share as I've never seen it before, and it made my day when I found it. I confess I thought it was photoshopped for half a second before I went to the source! Cool

More on the ad campaign as a whole, though not Gareth and Joanna's photo in particular, at the photographer's blog here. Scroll down to the second post. The photos run on a permanent loop, and there are lots of ones from the same campaign that I quite like as well. Very Happy

Aww, looks like they finally got it together. To Purdey and Gambit, arm wrestling would probably be the equivalent of holding hands in the park Smile

A lovely photo and a very nice find!

Wow Shocked , the mood has clearly improved after such publication from Jay. Smile
Frankly, when I firstly looked at the photo of Joanna and Gareth, I thought that Joanna advertises wristwatch on his arm. Laughing (Probably the influence of what I'm doing the section "Advertising" for the stars of the series now).

Joanna and Gareth looks great - the couple is ready to work on their own adventures. Wink

Thanks, Jay, for the publication and comment.

That's what I thought--by 1978 they'd finally made it. This confirms it. Someone alert Brian Clemens. Wink

(And yes, I suspect the competitiveness would be alive and well. Imagine the debates over who got which side of the bed. Laughing )

Thanks, Denis! Very Happy It's a really exciting find, and I was thrilled when I came across it. I think Joanna's advertising all the jewelry she's wearing--the two bracelets, necklace, earrings, three rings on her left hand, and two on her right. The only one that's clearly not part of the line is Joanna's omnipresent pinky ring. Gareth appears to be wearing a watch as well, but it's mainly covered up by Joanna's arm, so I suspect it's not part of the line. Laughing

Even what they're wearing looks suitably Purdey and Gambitish. I'm wondering if it was supplied, or if Gareth and Joanna just showed up wearing it, and they didn't bother getting them to change. Nobody's tried to straighten Gareth's hair, though--we can be pretty sure of that. Wink

For a moment I wondered why Jo had two moles placed so symmetrically just above the bracelets on her arm, and why the ladies in the photos on the left had written numbers on their fingers.

Then I realised they were numbers added to the photos to identify the pieces in the jewellery catalogue!

Gambit's bracelet/watch has a number next to it, so it presumably was also in the range, rather than his own.

I thought they were little metal pieces hanging off the jewelry, and that was part of the style, but you're right--they are numbers! Joanna's personal ring is missing a number, noticeably. I completely missed the one next to Gareth's watch, too. They're not giving us a very good look at it, though--it's about the only part of Gareth's forearm that we can't see properly. Laughing Good eye, Franky. Very Happy

That is truly an amazing find Timeless! Purdey and Gambit have finally tied the knot. Or at least arm wrestled. I am amazed you found this frankly. Well done!

I'm amazed I found it, too! Isn't it great? Married or not, what did they get up to after the arm-wrestling, I wonder? Wink

After the arm-wrestling? They played Twister. What else? Wink

I'm surprised Denis didn't beat me to it, to be honest. It's been posted since early this year, so I don't know where it's been hiding!

Glad you like Gambit Santa. Every year I give thanks for the fact that That Beryl Marston...! had a Christmas episode, which makes things easy for me in the Christmas avatar department. Cool I always wonder if people will recognise him with the beard, but everyone always does. It's like I'm predictable or something. Laughing

Frankly, as regards to TNA, I always thought that Jay is the most advanced fan than most of us and I yield in this area in a many points. Smile

I spent a lot of time for The Avengers, while the "The New Avengers" in Russia were absolutely not popular.
Almost no one recorded the series on tape during the transmission and I'm ashamed to admit that even today in Russia there is no Russian-language version of the episode "Faces", which I was forced to miss during the broadcast on TV.

I have always loved this show (TNA), but had to popularize classic series as russian people liked it and through it could come to a new stage. So I paid not a lot of attention for The New Avengers, even when making the site. Recently, however, the situation has changed, I feel that can move freely in any the direction as fan club almost ceased to exist.
Many went to the Internet and I simply have no substitute. Crying or Very sad
On the other hand site Steedumbrella replaced this club - I think most people think that why go anywhere if you can just to dial the desired web address. And so it is. Well, times have changed. Very Happy
It's time to release on freedom from the background of favorite The New Avengers.

Wonderful live avatar, Jay, I'll have to watch this episode from That Beryl Marston...! with Gareth Hunt as Santa. I was intrigued. Razz

I specialised. If I'd tried to do the whole show in the detail I've done TNA, I'd have no time or money left for anything else. Laughing

It's a shame that TNA wasn't as well-received in Russia, but at least your site covers it extensively, so Russian fans have a resource to go to if they're interested. Smile

That Beryl Marston...! had such a short run, but at least they got a Christmas episode in there. It makes up a bit for the fact that we never got a Christmas TNA story. Cool
