Seems that Joanna/Purdey was almost as injury prone as Twiggy ! Purdey's first fight was done by a stuntwoman and also her tap dance fight, riding a motorbike etc. Would a fresh and free of injuries Purdey/ Joanna Lumley handle Adele Bloemendaal (or Caroline Munro ?) in a 'fair fight' ? Would she 'wipe the floor with Diana Rigg '?

Can someone explain to me the interest in what Avengers woman can beat up what other Avengers woman? Is this kind of like Batman vs. Superman? Wink

It's a conflict of science and humanity Smile 'beat up' .... no interest in such an interaction between Avengers women where someone would get hurt Exclamation Doesn't mean though, for example, I wouldn't be interested in seeing Purdey 'sparring' with the other Avenger Girls (or Steed ), ... as she does with Gambit Very Happy Not at all kind of like Batman vs. Superman ...totally fantasy characters, which the Avenger characters are not Very Happy

The motorbike riding on the road was 'cause Joanna Lumley didn't ride a motorbike and hadn't a licence, wasn't it? Diana Rigg would have to get a man in.

Seems that Joanna/Purdey was very injury prone ! Why ? Purdey's first fight was done by a stuntwoman and also her tap dance fight, riding a motorbike etc. Would a fresh and free of injuries Purdey/ Joanna Lumley handle Adele Bloemendaal, Caroline Munro or Diana Rigg in a friendly tussle ?

She probably found it hard to control a motorbike ! She did, fair play to her, pose on a Honda , in unbiker girl gear and yet looks very sexy even though Purdey compared to Cathy Gale on a motorcycle looks rather ... physically ! Purdey's use of legwarmers when playing tennis... Purdey's legs would look way too thin without them ! ! Women notice things about other women !: Diana Rigg, I'd venture, would have no problem riding Purdey's Honda... Cool

* sigh * it's a shame some people can only "big up" their preferred characters by rubbishing others. It's become more prevalent of late with the changes in board membership. Sad and quite boring.

We all known Diana Rigg's limitations with the action scenes compared to those who came before and after her, but I won't rehearse them here. Let's be kind and put it down to her self-imposed "tiredness" when travelling to theatre jobs every night of the filming.

Haven't noticed any forum members ''big up'' their preferred characters by rubbishing others Very Happy Agreed such would be sad and quite boring Crying or Very sad You point out what you see as Diana Rigg's ''limitations with the action scenes compared to those who came before and after her''. Very Happy I point out what I see as Joanna Lumley's weaknesses, which imo are that she is much too thin and lacks the necessary physical strength to be considered a REAL action girl but is one of my favourite FANTASY action girls 8)Gareth Hunt, I hear was attacked in Paris because he was perceived as REAL action man Gambit, and he probably was to a good degree, and could handle such. Joanna Lumley was perceived as REAL action girl Purdey by many, with people interested in finding out how good her fighting skills against another skilled woman would be ! A 'fight' with Adele Bloemendaal when 'Purdey' was on promotional work in The Netherlands showed clearly 'Purdey' had caught a Tartar in the considerably older Dutch woman who had no difficulty handling (literally)Purdey's shoulder-high kicks or swinging Purdey around and getting her in a headlock ! Adele Bloemendaal emphatically dispelled any notions that Joanna Lumley was the ultimate Avenger Girl Crying or Very sad

Seems like the equivalent of Laugh in or Hee Haw has taken over.

Funny, but I never really paid much attention to the women's fashions on the show. Probably because I was too busy looking at the men Very Happy ...ahem...Anyway, I agree that Purdey and Tara were given some horrible outfits especially Tara during the time she was at her heaviest. Why such loud and wide colors when more subtle colors and trims would have made her appear much thinner. Slacks didn't suit her at all and she had fantastic legs, so why not more of the skirts...that tartan one she wore in Have Guns Will Haggle was perfect.

I remember when I first started watching the series how much I loved looking at Emma's clothes. She's one of the best-dressed characters on TV, no mistake. I'd happily nick most of her wardrobe. In contrast, when I'm watching TNA, I find myself wishing that Purdey would get out of the way so I can see what Gambit's wearing (or see Gambit, period, really. *ahem* Wink ). This is a sign that you're not dressing your female star to the best of your ability. Steed's suits are wonderfully made, but a suit is a suit, and I find I don't pay as much attention. But they both have great wardrobes--one of the best-dressed pairs on TV. Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist are the only others that come to mind at this moment.
Purdey appears only once (Emily) in a miniskirt but boots that would have emphasised Lumley's long thin legs should have been worn with it, e.g. the ones worn in Target Cool In France she wears shorts ..the red lace-up boots she wears in Eagles Nest with the white socks inside would have looked fantastic with the shorts on Purdey Very Happy Why leather was not worn by Purdey ...she looks fantastic in leather jacket promotional pose ...is hard to understand Crying or Very sad Gambit's suit and tie in Faces where he is talking to Purdey at her ballet barre is classy Cool Purdey is certainly not blocking Timeless' or Kim's view here...Gambit towers over Purdey here

Designers weren't 'terrified' at all. It was simply that 60's designers liked the staight up and down, flat chested tom-boy look. Curves returned in the 70's.
Curves certainly did return in the '70's Very Happy The New Avengers certainly featured many a curvaceous stunner ...the princess in Midas Touch we see in close proximity to Purdey ...and Purdey looks rather flimsy in comparison Surprised I think Purdey would have looked sexier in the Princesses outfit Cool

Yes, there are all different sorts of women and all different sorts of boys, so it isn't that useful as a differentiator anyway. I wouldn't really describe Diana Rigg as "willowy" either which is the kind of starved fashion-model figure I associate with "boyishness". She's physically robust, for obvious reasons she'd have to be, whereas Twiggy looked like a faint breeze would blow her away (can't think of a model less suited than Twiggy to model swinging 60s wear with Macnee. Still, he played along, being the gent that he is).

The phrase "painfully thin" fits Twiggy to a tee (unlike any of her clothes!).

What do you think...?

Lynda Carters strong athletic Legs surprised me compared with the rather thin-legged Joanna Lumley Legs Embarassed [img]http://imageshack.com/i/ey6VhcJRj ]http://imageshack.com/i/pd7VLwbkj Twiggy's Legs are far stronger and shapelier than the impression many photos of her create ! Wink Also a lot fitter than thought...cycling etc. Compare her Legs with Joanna's in her most famed Purdey pose sitting in blue dress...?
