Just to let people know that Don Leaver passed away this morning. One of the two directors who created the show's visual appeal.

He directed the very first episode and went on to direct twenty in total, as well as many other shows including Public Eye.

This is upsetting. I exchanged correspondence with Don while writing Bowler Hats and Kinky Boots and he answered questions that no else associated with the series could have and he was generally very helpful. I knew he was not in the best of health, which was why he failed to appear at The Avengers 50 Anniversary Celebration, which took place at the University of Chichester in 2011. Don called the shots on the very first Avengers episode Hot Snow and many other episodes, not to mention various other TV series. Without doubt he was one of the greats.

That's sad to hear. One of the best directors on the show! He had a great career.

RIP Don.

His work on The House That Jack Built alone insures his place in The Avengers Hall of Fame.

Very sad that we have lost one of our last contacts with the earliest days of the Avengers.

A hugely talented director and producer and nearly unique in The Avengers in that his work spanned both the videotape and film eras. The fact that he made the transition from the studio environment to film with as much style and panache as the series did itself is testament to his remarkable abilities.

A very sad loss, but Don Leaver has left a remarkable legacy. He will be remembered.

RIP.

Another large loss in 2015. Sad

Remarkable filmmaker who directed most of Avengers episodes and has passed from Police Surgeon to Emma Peel era.
What is only one episode The House That Jack Built. How many are there the depth in direction, when the action takes place in a huge house. It pops up on the level of the philosophy with impurities of the arthouse, at the same time the action keeps a viewer in suspense with many unpredictable twists and turns. The real art.
And bit of elements of a good arthouse we can also be seen in such episode as The Wringer, while smart visualization are in many episodes from Don, especially: The Decapod, Man with Two Shadows, Dial a Deadly Number, and How to Succeed.... at Murder.

it's sad that we can not see his legacy in the first season for 8 1/2 episodes Sad but we have enough for say how much his influence was important.

Rest In Peace

Very sad news, another sublime Avengers talent has left us. The House That Jack Built saw Don, Brian and Diana combine to make this one of the finest ever Avengers episodes.
RIP

One of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure to work with. I'm so pleased that I managed to get him to do two DVD commentaries and that we were able to sort a filmed interview out for the 50th anniversary celebration. A sad loss. RIP Don, you were a gent.
