Fitted some wooden pegs to the grip and handle so they can be securely attached to the lasers main body.

Ian
Would you say that the laser gun was mounted on a tripod stand for something like a surveyor's camera? |

I think it was Mike, the black supporting rod looks home made though. I'm not bothering with the tripod, it'll just take up too much room. I'm only going down as far as, and including the grey circular base. |

I wasn't sure what to do with the 9v power pack, I didn't want to spoil the look of the gun but having it externally, so finally decided to hide the unit behind the control box cover. I'll fix hidden magnets to the cover so it can be popped on and off easily, as and when the battery needs replacing.

Industrial style tripods (like the gun is fitted too), are really, really expensive. As I'm only interested in recreating the actual laser gun I decided to simply build the replica down to the top circular part of the tripod stand only. I picked up a few bits that, when put together, really closely match the top of the screen used stand. A child's plastic dinner plate, the lid off of a jar of hand cream, and some scrap bits of plastic pipe. Using a Dremel I customised the parts as needed, and after fitting them all together I turned the two finished sections over and filled them with quick setting liquid resin, it gave them weight and strength.

Thanks Piers, I'm now having a change of heart and thinking that it's not too much of a stretch to make the complete the stand

So ambitious yet so successful, well done Ian. It's very satisfying seeing these iconic props so skillfully remade - the laser gun details are typical of your level of commitment. Amazing. |
