I've just finished recreating Steed's Christmas card as it's seen on screen.
The original card was obviously hand drawn and painted, however I did it using a mixture of freehand drawing combined with Inkscape. Thing is, the original prop obviously wasn't monochrome, it would have been made in colour. I'd like to make a colour version as well as the B/W one. I know it's a long shot to get a reply here, but does anyone have any suggestions on what would have been what colour ? I know it's anyone's guess 50 odd years later, but I'm completely stumped to be honest. The tree tub is obviously based on the one seen in the hall at the manor house which would have given an indication of colour scheme, but it's seems no colour reference shots of either the card or the film set exist.

I made a colour one myself a couple of years ago, I'll dig it out.

Hahahahaha,

Hahahahahaha Laughing

That's so funny, I actually fell for it for quite a while. But then I'm not the sharpest tool in the box Very Happy

Seriously though, it's brilliant. For some reason it wouldn't have crossed my mind to do the tree on the right green. Some stuff I can do, other stuff I can't.

hah, when I wrote "made one" I meant "coloured it in Photoshop".

I like the design, the simplicity of the continuous curve and the colours coming off it. Most of the colours seem obvious to me from the tonality of the original and what they're representing although the green present and the yellow are complete guesses.
The night sky, tree, wavy shadows on the snow and the red checks are straightforward though, and I leveraged their tones for some of the other colours.

I think your colour version is absolutely brilliant. I played around with it for hours and I just couldn't get it to look right. Yours looks like it's exactly as it may have been on the day, all credit to you Piers. I'm simply a mimic at the end of the day, I can copy but I can't create. Thinking about it, how odd that I made it in black and white in the first place. It never even occurred to me to do it any other way when I started to make it. Yet ever other prop I've done from the monochrome era I've automatically made in colour ??

Ah I know ! This card is one of only three things I vividly remember as a 6 year old boy watching the first Rigg episodes in Asia where I grew up as a child. It's imprinted on my brain as being a black and white card and so I made it that way without even thinking about it. It was only yesterday that I thought to myself, hang on, this would have been in colour originally.

Printed off another card and hand painted it this morning.

Didn't think I would, but I love seeing it (and actually prefer it) in colour when next to the monochrome one.

Studio scale dream sequence santa.

Thank you Piers. I found the stone Santa mask too bland on it's own, so after some thought I recreated part of Brandon Stories iron gates but in fibreglass to display it on, I think it looks better for it.

Steed's Christmas fairy. No skill required here, just the difficult task of tracking down the exact doll and costume from 1963 used to make the original.

I don't think there's anything else I want, or can do from Too Many Christmas Trees, so that's it.
