One of my favourite examples is in "Build a Better Mousetrap" where he introduces himself as being from The National Distrust - a quango that doesn't trust the owners of stately homes to keep them properly maintained. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

Yeah, Mousetrap has a lot of trickster stuff going on. I've written three blogs about it already, and there's still more to unpack. _________________ "What I lack in agility I make up for with a certain low cunning" |

New Blog Post on Featherdusters at 400 Yards
In this post, I examine the ways in which Steed and Mrs Peel's true courage and virtue are contrasted with the villainy of the Danger Makers.
Content notice for discussion of ableist themes and disabled-as-villain tropes.

The Exclusivity Arc
So about a year or so ago, I went through the whole of Season 4 to figure out how the arc of Steed and Mrs Peel's relationship worked. The result was a 9-post series on Tumblr, which later sprouted a couple extra features. Since that initial series, I revised some of my thinking about stuff from "Too Many Christmas Trees" onward, so I've collated everything into only 3 posts (with revisions) plus 2 extras on my WordPress site, and it's now all there for your delectation.
You can start with the Introduction and Overview, which also has links to the other parts: https://therealavengers.wordpress.com/2017/12/17/the-exclusivity-arc-introduction-and-overview/ _________________ "What I lack in agility I make up for with a certain low cunning"

A Thing about wardrobe
A while back I tossed off a little something on my tumblr about wardrobe colors in Season 5, based on a convo some of us were having on that site. I've reposted it on my WordPress blog.

New Blog Post about "Second Sight"
So I blogged another blog, titled "Blindness, Ableism, and Models of Disability in 'Second Sight'," and you can read it at https://therealavengers.wordpress.com/2018/04/21/blindness-ableism-and-models-of-disability-in-second-sight/.
Content notice for discussion of ableism and disabled-as-villain tropes in that blog post.
This is the first in what I hope will be an occasional series on representations of disability in The Avengers.
As always, I welcome questions and comments about my work, which you can post on the forum as a reply here or as a new thread, or on my WordPress blog itself, or you can send me an ask (anonymously, even!) on my tumblr at http://sparklywaistcoat.tumblr.com/. (You don't have to have a tumblr account to do an ask, I don't think, just click the "ask me anything" link in the sidebar.) _________________ "What I lack in agility I make up for with a certain low cunning" |

A Little Smackerel of Something While I Get My Act Together
Just recycling a little bloglet I did a while back to give y'all something to ponder while I try to finish a more extended piece that is driving me mad.
You're welcome.

This is one of my favorite personality traits of Steed, and I made many comments about it in my book. I see it as a confidence man-style feint designed to get a reaction from the villains, to see if they betray any guilt on their faces. Sometimes he uses it to test a hunch as well because he might suspect them but be uncertain. So, it's nice to see someone else noting it and writing a blog about it. Very well done. I look forward to reading more soon.

Thanks for the comment, but can you clarify which blog you're discussing, please? Because I didn't talk about Steed at all in the most recent one on voice and ventriloquism, except extremely tangentially.

Sorry, I was referring to the first one. (I'm new to the forum, so I'm still catching up.) I read some of the posts in Cunning Old Foxes IV: Hiding in Plain Sight.

K, gotcha. And yes: it's fun when Steed plays roles, and I think he really enjoys doing that.
BTW I have a series of posts on Steed as trickster, of which Hiding in Plain Sight is only one: you can get to them by going to the "categories" drop down menu and clicking on "cunning old foxes."
Thanks again! I'm glad you liked the blog, and good luck with your book! _________________ "What I lack in agility I make up for with a certain low cunning" |
