According to a French site, Brian Clemens once claimed that a copy of the completed Shepherd film exists but without sound. Apparently he was surprised that it had not been used as a DVD bonus. Can anyone shed any light on this? Jaz, for example? _________________ The Avengers: a product of the sixties and a timeless piece of sublime art |

Let's hope he was right, but I think this rumour has been dispelled.
Although I would be more inclined to believe Brian Clemens. |

I’m told (by people I trust implicitly and know far more about The Avengers than I do) that a copy does indeed exist in private hands but all attempts to gain access to it have fallen on deaf ears. _________________ "No ma'm, I'm a Texan." |

Which once again says (and I believe it) that there are private collectors who obsess the material that Avengers fans can only dream of.
Fortunately, in last years, it managed to unveil the lost episode Tunnel of Fear, which was a great event. It is not known if there will be something similar in the future. _________________ Russian fan-site Steedumbrella.

I recall Jaz saying that there was certainly no copy of it in the archives with all the other episodes (same for the early Tara King episodes).
It's certainly interesting that the Tunnel of Fear turned up when we knew of the audio only copy held by a fan (who it was said was willing to let people listen to it if they wanted..).
It would be wonderful if it is out there somewhere and we'll one day get to see it (and hear it!). Aside from seeing what kind of an Emma Peel Liz Shepherd gave us - I'm fascinated to see how different Peter Graham Scott directed it compared to Roy Ward Baker (even though there's a lot of location footage from the original used). |

I don't believe that there is any confirmation of its existence.
I recall a suggestion that there was a really poor copy of some bits of footage (silent) - I don't know if that's true. |

from what I understand, Shepard didn't have that 'presence' on screen that Diana Rigg had...hence, she got the boot |

There's a more salacious reason I've been told. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

I didn't want to repeat rumours, but indeed but I thought we had more or less confirmed on this forum that there were other. lets say, more personal reasons. |

Yeah, have heard similar rumours...but at this point, does it really matter ? My overall view was, she was simply wrong for the part. |
