When the original filmed Avengers negatives were found, they contained many trims/cut scenes that had been missing from the transmission prints. The first 16 season 5 eps. had been intentionally edited at the time by request from the London (rediffusion) region to allow more time for commercials. Some other UK regions also broadcast these edited eps. These were the prints Channel 4 showed in the 1980s.

From the 2nd batch of season 5 eps onwards all were made to a shorter length, thought to be at the request of ABC US Network.

With this in mind I was wondering about The New Avengers negatives, which Network has confirmed they now have and intend to issue on blu ray (following the ep. used in the Cybernauts trilogy blu ray). Is there any chance that these might contain some trims/cut scenes that are not in the existing much used/released transmission prints? The TNA eps were made as shorter length ,as was the norm in '70s ,and has been ever since, with eps shorter and shorter, wonder if any trims might have been made or scenes cut over time.

It's quite possible - The Network release of The Cybernauts trilogy included ad bumpers that were removed from the Studio Canal blurays. Plus they did a better job with the contrast and colour balance. I personally would love to see Network release all of the episodes of The Avengers as well as The New Avengers but I'd then have to quit my job so I can recapture all the images for my website using the better images - it took me ages just to do the Cybernauts trilogy and I didn't recapture everything.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Would be nice to see any extra bits even if minor.

I agree with you about re-buying again-feels as if we have to have endless pockets! I am also a Doctor Who fan and after having bought all the vhs and dvds am now buying the blu-rays, which are certainly not cheap! I hope that will be it!!!

Me too re Doctor Who blurays - they are gorgeous. I sell my old DVDs on ebay as I replace them with blurays. Fortunately, I only ever bought blurays of new Who. I've sold all my old A&E Avengers DVD because they were so awful anyway compared to the Contender & Studio Canal releases. But then I sold my Contender sets for a good price, too.

That's the way to go! I should really look into selling on ebay. Trouble is once i buy something I hold onto it for dear life-even old dvds and vhs, which i never watch! Guess i have a problem with letting go...!!

It is kinda lovely and exciting that still there are things to discover about The Avengers.

Does anyone have a screenshot of those TNA ad-bumpers.

(Maybe I should be getting a blu-ray player.....)

I only took two caps, I'll recap it to give you the sequence, but from memory it's just the beginning of the opening credits sequence.
