Thank you Denis, that helps a lot. I had the "A passo di danza" title but no confirmed date.
It's not listed in La Stampa or Stampa Sera, was it on RAI 2 in a different region? Or am I missing it because it was an odd timeslot?
The edition of Stampa Sera for 7 August 1969 (anno 101, edition 182, page says, in part, this:
Quote: | At 10 pm, another British crime show from the Special Agent series, starring the male Patrick Macnee and the appetizing Diana Rigg, completes the evening of the National team. It is called Lovejoy and C. |
I now discover that Austria showed The Avengers earlier, so in the Tyrol Italian viewers could have watched it from those broadcasts, there's a bunch listed in "Dolomiten" in 1968 amd no doubt earlier, as they're a mix of b/w & colour Emma Peels.
Re the "Scuola" title, I guess someone thought Henry's keep-fit class could be called a dance school?
I find it strange that when The Avengers started in Spain it was marked as being authorised for people over fourteen and shown at 10:15 on a Tuesday night* but after nine episodes it was moved to a 4pm timeslot on Mondays, which surely was a prime children's timeslot.
* Not Saturday night, Cure fans. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

Glad to help, Piers. "A passo di danza" listed in La Stampa and Stampa Sera on 2 June 1979 by Retedue (aka RAI 2).

Indeed, Italy showing the series rather late in relation to many other non-socialist countries in those years. If interested, here is a page of those countries where full or partial coverage of world TV premieres was posted on Steedumbrella in 2016:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160402143842/https://steedumbrella.ru/tv_premieres.html
(later I researched Mexico, Poland, Romania, Hong Kong, Croatia, Cyprus, and Chile, the latter was not posted on the website, since I only had one date - Emily on 11 September 1979 by channel TVN at 10:30pm).
Well, considering that during the fight between the group members and the heroes in this Henry's class used choreography, it kind of looks like dancing. _________________ Denis |

Ah, thank you so much. I misread 79 as 69. I should have thought to use archive.org to review your site as well, thanks for that too! _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

Hi! I'm an Italian fan of The Avengers. I've been following the forum for a while, but I decided to subscribe after I noticed the development of the research about the series in Italy. I hope I can help a bit!
First of all, let me share something about the Italian TV premiere of "A passo di danza". The episode is mentioned in a 1969 issue of "Radiocorriere TV" (the official magazine of RAI, the Italian public broadcaster), among other TV shows, all with audience data. The title of the list is "TV broadcasts of the month of July 1969". This proves that the episode first aired in July '69, even though we still don't know the day.
Here is the link of the "Radiocorriere" issue: https://archive.org/details/Radiocorriere-1969-40/page/n63/mode/2up
I can also confirm that during the 70s almost everyone in northern Italy could receive TSI (Switzerland) and Telecapodistria (Yugoslavia), both of which aired the 5th season of The Avengers. There was however no Italian language broadcast from Malta: in the 80s many episodes of The Avengers were aired on "Tele Malta 80" (sometimes mentioned as "TeleMalta"), which -- despite the name -- was an Italian private network based near Turin (the history of Tele Malta 80 can be found on this italian website: https://massimoemanuelli.com/2019/04/17/tele-malta-80/). |

Hello Paul40 and welcome. I just had to work out that the episode is 'The Quick Quick Slow Death'. So Italy began with the B/W ones too! _________________ Ron

Thank you Paul, this is very informative. I'll correct my site accordingly. QQSD must have been a replacement for another programme, I couldn't find it in any listings but I'll give it another go, armed with this information. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

Looking at the telefilms in the list, only the FBI ones were in the schedules.
Code: | Telefilm Date Time Channel
FBI
Sabotaggio 13/07/1969 22:20 2
Un carico prezioso 20/07/1969 22:35 2
Le vie del Brasile 27/07/1969 22:15 2
500.00 dollari 5/07/1969 21:15 2
Ai confini della realtà : Chi è il vero marziano? 20/7/1969?
A passo di danza ? |
The Twilight Zone episode (second last - English title "Will the real Martian please stand up?") was apparently broadcast on 20 July 1969 but it's not listed either.
Perhaps they were both stand-by programmes during the Apollo 11 coverage? That might explain their high ratings!
It's a shame The Avengers was called "Agente Speciale" in Italy, it makes it bloody hard to find. _________________ Mrs Peel, you're needed!

It's taken me a while but I've finally managed to complete my latest update.
In addition to TV Times and/or TV Weekly listings, I've added newspaper clippings from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, the USA, and Australia to every episode of series 4.
