I've just watched the 1973 comedy film No sex please, we're British. The original West End play from 1971 starred Michael Crawford as Brian Runnicles, and Linda Thorson. Sadly neither were in the film version. Ronnie Corbett played Runnicles (a part I also played on stage 7 years ago!) in the film. Corbett was one of those actors who should have appeared in the Avengers, but sadly never did. A real shame,as he would have fitted in perfectly. His comedy partner of course did in The hidden tiger. I did, however, count 4 actors in this film who had appeared in The Avengers, namely Arthur Lowe, Ian Ogilvy, Michael Robbins and Brian Wilde. Finally, I noticed a red sign on the wall of the flat in the movie with the number 22 on it. (see photo below) It's almost identical to the sign on the wall of Tara's flat, except Tara's sign said 21. As Linda would go on to play a major role in the stage version I'm wondering if this sign was a bit of an 'in' joke. Does anyone have any ideas here? Idea Rich.

I can't answer your question but can add a tiny bit of trivia. You mention Corbett not being in The Avengers. Well, in the film "Some Will, some won't (1970- a remake of the film "Laughter in paradise") Corbett;s character has to rob a bank in order to inherit from a will. in order to give himself courage there is a very brief moment in which he suddenly dons a bowler and umbrella from the coat-stand, briefly becoming Steed. He starts by saying "Alright Tara i'll look after this...", as a version of The Avengers theme plays in the background !! i found it amusing when i saw the film many years ago and always remembered it! So for a brief moment he sort-of, almost was, in The Avengers!!!

Have just found film on youtube. Steed bit starts at 39:20

There are other Avengers connections too. Arthur Lowe is in it (Dead man's Treasure) & Leslie Philips. who directed the Avengers stage play! The logo at start says "weintraub Entertainment Group". (Jerry Weintraub, of course, was producer of the Avengers film 1998!). It has many other great British actors in it too such as Michael Hordern, Thora Hird, Barbara Murray< Frank Thornton, Dennis Price and more. Not as good as the original film but worth a watch.

Thanks Ron, I've never heard of the film Some will, some won't. As it appears to have so many Avengers connections, I'll make a point of looking out for it. I've always thought Ronnnie Corbett should have been in The Avengers, and now it seems he almost sort of did! Rich. Very Happy

I've never seen that film before - the score was by season 6 Avengers composer Howard Blake.Smile

I remember seeing "Some Will, some won't" a long time ago, where all those who wanted to inherit have to face a fear chosen by the deceased. Michael Hordern plays an imaginable English eccentric brilliantly who wrote books under the pseudonym Gloria Trubshaw. But I never appreciated Ronnie Corbett's nod to The Avengers because I couldn't have known it well enough at the time. Thanks for that.
