Occasionally TMZ (an American Entertainment gossip rag) runs "Remember When" photos of when stars were young and what they look like now.
Of course they ran one on Diana Rigg:

Horrible! Horrible! I believe it was intentional. Her coloration is washed out and her blemishes are amplified (which is easy to do with Photoshop). Another aspect to consider is that she may no longer use a makeup artist as when she is doing productions and plays. Her picture was taken at some award show and she may not have intended to be in the limelight. Either way it angers me - both how they treated the photo and the comments (though some comments rise to her defense).
So here's the before of TMZ's dirtiest work:
And here is what any decent magazine cover artist would have done by simply applying a little makeup effect (just like they do now!):
I'd like to let loose with quite a few four letter perjoratives but shall refrain...
Ok, I'm done with my rant now. |

It dries out and thins the skin - apart from all the cancerous dangers. It reduces important saliva which is a natural teeth clenser as well as helpful for the digestion. Nictotine also stains the teeth.
She is in her seventies I know, and it's personal choice, but smoking has affected her looks no doubt about it. _________________

I have to agree, I'm afraid. It's done a job on Joanna's skin as well, though I think Diana's a much heavier smoker. There's no question it's aged them. Diana looks pretty good considering, though. _________________ Last Watched: Who Was That Man I Saw You With?

I agree as well. Watched what it did to my mother (2 pack a day smoker) and how horrible it is to the skin.
In my business, there is the addictive quality of smoking as well as using it as a coping / soothing mechanism. It would be better if she could find some other ways of self-soothing. |

The second pic where all her eye wrinkles have been removed looks like they used polyfilla!
Why is a man allowed his wrinkles and they say it gives his face "character" but a woman has to be airbrushed to within an inch of her life? It's so fake.
For 70+ she looks fine anyway, no gizzard neck etc like so many people her age. _________________ Last watched: The Man in the Mirror. |

While I agree TMZ is trash, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure Diana knows she's not the sex symbol she once was nor is she trying to be.
To be honest, she looks like anyone else her age that has subjected their bodies to decades with cigarettes. |

Which is a shame because I know from personal experience how it will end... |

Me too. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I hope at some point smoking will be phased out and prohibited in public places. I work in the city centre and I can't take a walk around the block at lunch time without feel queezy from second hand smoke. It's not right that kids can't walk down the street without being subjected to that kind of thing.
And, yeah, I realise how hypocritical I must look with this avatar. |

I think that's ironic rather than hypocritical.
Talking of avatar's - I am loving Helen's new one. _________________

I actually think it's a refreshing approach. As a graphic designer by trade I've been asked to airbrush so many images to make women look thinner, remove wrinkles, moles, birthmarks, body hair, whiten teeth, brighten the colour of their eyes, etc. It's quite depressing really as it does have an influence on women of all ages (including girls as young as 9 or 10!)
As someone pointed out, Diana's 'real life' appearance has a lot do with years of heavy smoking _________________
