The initial support structure prior to applying fibre glass for the Winged Avenger replica prop head.
9cm length black/dark charcoal grey fur fabric for the head covering.

With the internal support structure completed and covered in parcel tape all it requires now is a fibre glass coating.

Covered the cardboard shell in fibre glass matting and then a layer of liquid resin ...
45 minutes later, when the resin had cured, I turned the head upside down and filled it with water, this turns the internal cardboard structure to a mushy pulp that can then be removed easily ...
Once washed out you are left with a custom made, strong, light weight 'Winged Avenger' head frame that when finished can be worn.
A quick trim and tidy up, some shaping to fit the shoulders and it's done. same procedure was used to create the beak.
Next step, creating a paper pattern for cutting out the fabric panels so that when stitched together the fur fabric head stretches perfectly over the support frame.

That's the detailing on the beak finished.
... and the painting completed
The beak now just needs bolting to the main head ....
I finally bonded some iron-on plastic coating to the reverse of the relevant sections of the fur skull cap so that the mouth and eye apertures could be neatly cut out using a craft knife.

That's very kind, thank you. Applying those minute 3mm white numbers neatly with tweezers to the black circular disc was the hardest thing I've ever done. |

I'd really like one of these comics to go with my other WA props I'm finding the size of this particular prop hard to judge. I'm 'guesstermating' it to be roughly 16cm wide ?? I'm also guessing that the actual pages inside are blank

Judging by the ad on the back, wasn't this a standard DC comic book from the States, with a custom drawn Frank Bellamy artwork front cover applied. |

A spine appears to have been added to the comic book and I think this is what holds the new front cover in place. |
