I've just found this recent article:

Hidden London tram station opens to public for first time in 70 years

"For many Londoners, the purpose of the ramp in the middle of Southampton Row at the intersection of Theobalds Road that leads down into the gloom has long been a mystery. It was the location for the Avengers’ base in the 1998 film starring Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes..."

It has been a long time since I watched the film version so I don't recall the HQ. I shall have to take another look.

darn, I'll have to go dig up my dvd of it...and check it out....of course, rumors are flying that warners is considering a blu ray director's cut of that ill fated 1998 bomb...
